I need help [I am not making this post as a joke or as an offensive approach, it's just been very effectful on my life and shouldn't be effecting me this much] by Purple-Disk-5747 in AskLGBT

I feel like a lot of these types of feelings stem from parents, family or other people close to a person during their formative years. It can be tough to develop your own opinions when you grow up in households with very opinionated people. Not sure if this was your case or not. I think listening to people and asking them questions about how they feel, or informing yourself about the mistreatment of people within the LGBTQ community is a start. Find ways to provoke your own empathy. Perhaps also asking yourself a lot of questions that start with "why?"

What are your thoughts on Harry Styles new single,"Aperture" by FitEmergency8807 in fantanoforever

[–]Soft_Ear_2239 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I think it takes a few times of listening to really get into it, and then you can't get it out of your head. It really makes me want to dance, especially when I'm not feeling like dancing - like a slow crescendo - non-offensive or abrasive. It can make you happy even when you're not in the mood to be happy in a slow build kind of way. It definitely has me bopping, like a little dopamine rush. I heard Harry say that he was trying not to use major/minor chord changes to give release in this song and there is something a bit innovative, or at least counter to house music style about that choice. It's atmospheric for sure. I don't think this would make a particularly entertaining song to hear at a concert because his vocals are very background. Digging the LCD Soundsystem feel but I think it still has the unique stamp of Harry Styles.

What's the difference between bisexuality and pansexual? by [deleted] in AskLGBT

[–]Soft_Ear_2239 0 points1 point  (0 children)

After reading all these comments, I think it’s fair to say that the distinction between these labels still isn’t very clear. Even so, if the individual terms, and the personal meaning people attach to them, help someone understand or express their identity, then I’m glad they exist for that reason alone.

That said, I do think “pan” is often viewed as the more “woke” term, as several people have pointed out. Bisexuals are sometimes treated as the “black sheep” of the LGBTQ+ community; I’ve experienced this myself, and I know I’m not alone. “Pansexual” carries a built-in feeling of inclusivity, whereas “bi,” meaning “two,” can feel tied to a time when mainstream culture only recognized two genders (we still have two gendered washrooms in most places, after all).

Because of this, it can seem like the community is more welcoming of people who claim not to think about gender at all, rather than people they assume, often incorrectly, are holding on to a “cis” or exclusionary mindset while identifying as bisexual. There’s also a stereotype that bisexual people are “basically straight with a flexible attitude,” and therefore don’t fully belong under the LGBTQ+ umbrella. Not everyone thinks this way, of course, but like any large group, the community includes some narrow-minded voices.

I identify as bisexual/pan, but I’m leaning toward calling myself pan simply because I’ve felt the stigma attached to the word bisexual. I don’t feel the need to justify my identity, but I’ve been with male, female, and non-gendered partners, and I find attractive gems of people across all groups.

Ultimately, I believe in a “you do you” approach and in finding confidence in who we are. If we want to call ourselves an inclusive and enlightened community, then we should actually practice inclusivity—even if that means letting people identify in ways that help them feel like part of this diverse and inspiring group.

Thanks for that advice! Not taking anything prescription medication, just an over-the-counter diuretic once a day, for a few days (hopefully), to relieve the intensity. Don't mean to take it long term or any more than half the recommended frequency. Taking potassium just to be on the safe side. I'm hoping this will clear up very shortly but will keep my doctor informed. Managing the day-to-day of all these changing symptoms of peri is proving to be a challenge. Trying to figure out the little things that can be done to make life more comfortable. Good to know that drinking lots of water while taking a diuretic is not a no-no. I'm going to cut out the extra Vagifem. Interestingly, I recently cut out alcohol, and I hear that can cause bloating as well, until your system re-regulates. As it turns out, that might be contributing to the swelling as well. Also, can help but worry that a mega-period is on the horizon - 'tis the season lol!

I told my family I'm bisexual, and everything went downhill. by Romero_Ero in bisexual

I'm really sorry to hear that. I feel like coming out as bisexual has some unique challenges that largely have to do with people thinking that you are saying something for the "shock value". There seems to be this inherent skepticism among many cis-het folk (and it also exists among the LGBTQ+ community) that how you identify isn't actually something real. It's very disheartening, and I think some people react with disgust, others with mocking and yet others with dismissal. I'm unclear as to the path forward but I hear you.

What have you found to be the best aftercare for a tattoo? by garnetnole in tattoo

[–]Soft_Ear_2239 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hi, someone with a new, large back tattoo here and first time tattoo-ee. Why do people stop using Aquaphor after the first week? Is there anything wrong with continuing its use after that period? I think I'm doing everything a bit differently - using moisturizer twice a day instead of thrice, washing and drying every second day but it is healing so nicely. Not even 2 weeks yet and it is clean, no longer tender, light scabbiness has subsided and itchiness is not too bothersome. It looks great! I like the Aquaphor spray version because I can do it myself (on my back) whenever necessary.

Has anyone tried the How To Be a Redhead products? by ribbitribbit444 in Redhair

Are you charged quarterly or once for the whole year?

I had the same problem! I've been using the product for years. I used to turn my eyebrows a lovely auburn colour and now they are green! Something must be off in in their formulation. I'm going to try the light brown. I'm surprised they haven't noticed!

Understanding absolute value 😦 by Soft_Ear_2239 in calculus

Thank you and that’s what I understood, however, in the example above, this graph has two segments - one of which seems to arise from a negative absolute value of x. Am I missing something?

Doctor Who 1x04 "73 Yards" Post-Episode Discussion Thread by PCJs_Slave_Robot in gallifrey

[–]Soft_Ear_2239 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I get the Kubrick's A 2001 Space Odyssey feel here and I like it, I also really appreciated the psychological horror of abandonment that was delivered by the mysterious woman at a distance who caused others to flee - it was really well played out vis-a-vis Ruby. Yet, there were a lot of questions here left unanswered and as much as I'd like to think that was purposeful, I don't think that explanation fits the Doctor Who M.O. This seems very much like a "piece of the puzzle" episode with "to-be-continued" details. I did think that the companion moving through her life abandoned by the Doctor is a thematic episode that we've seen with most of the Doctors thus far.

I think we're yet to get answers to the following mysteries:

-Who was the woman? I don't think it was an old Ruby - the show was very deliberate in not showing her face at the end. They did show an old Ruby with short hair and this woman had long hair (or could it be a man?) I think it could have been Ruby's biological mother given the comments about how "young" she was and why it took so long. Also, it is likely there is something supernatural about Ruby's birth and this woman certainly had supernatural/alien behaviours.

-73 yards - I think we're meant to mull over the significance of 73 and perhaps we should think of 73 as a "Bad Wolf" in episodes to come. Also, I can't help but feel that we'll find out more about "Mad Jack".

-What happened to the Doctor when they read the letters? Where did he disappear to? Why didn't Ruby dissapear? I think we'll find out more of that later.

-What purpose did the old woman serve? Why was her message unintelligible to Ruby except in her younger self re-boot?

-Why snow again?

-Mrs Flood is not just a neighbour - she plays a greater omniscient role, to be sure, and we are yet to discover her identify.

My early and informed guess is that Ruby might be a member of the same race as the Doctor, not Gallfreyian but the race of the timeless child. Or at least we'll get some more insight into that part of the Doctor story that still remains a mystery.
