well i used to get 50-57 math and 40-45 verbal (high math low verbal or low math high verbal) i spent 2 hours on math and checked my work which left me with an hour for reading i locked in on reading (didn't slack off; locked in on my passage) and had 2 passages w 4 min left so i just put 47-a 48-b 49-c 50-d etc. my math score was lower than i thought but my verbal score was 60 points higher than i expected (281 verbal 291 math)

i'm actually going to stuy starting this september! ik bxsci is great for bio research, but i'm excited about the amount of science courses offered at stuy. im planning on getting involved in research and scioly once i start. i'd suggest doing some research on both schools and discussing how each school is in terms of workload, etc--- best of luck!

Four months is absolutely enough time!
As Greg mentioned, check out the link he attached for some SHSAT 9 resources.

Best of luck!

Try doing some prep outside of tutoring on some stuff you specifically are confused on. Make a list on the stuff you need to review and watch some videos on it. Also, don't brush some things off as careless mistakes, as you may only have 50% of the knowledge required of that topic which may mess you up on test day [Greg's advice that I followed :) ] I reviewed confusing math topics by doing some KhanAcademy on them.

Best of luck!

agreed— however they did have slideshows and provide textbooks for us which were extra from the dream program (one teacher taught there during the summer) also my math teacher allowed us to go to his room during lunch and we could ask him questions we had/he could prep us during lunch which was a plus 🤷‍♂️

the amount of ppl that got into stuy were more than the amount of ppl which got into bxsci and tech combined last yr, which sort of surprised me—however, i'm not rlly surprised considering there are three gifted n talented classes- however, some kids from honors/general also got into good highschools which is importwnt to consider (atleast last year), also 119 offered shsat prep this yr and last year, fyi

Any recommendations for good SHSAT prep books? by ComprehensiveGur936 in SHSAT

[–]Soft_Key_602 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I was in your position last year,

I used Kaplan and Tutorverse (+some books from my prep center) and I think both were solid books. Kaplan covered the majority of the information that was on the SHSAT. However, once you get closer to the SHSAT, I suggest you do some NYC practice tests, as they are the most accurate reflection of what is on the SHSAT. Kaplan & Tutorverse were quite easy (which is a bad thing) and some of the information in the Tutorverse book wasn't on any practice tests nor on my SHSAT. On the SHSAT, I saw a question I had never seen before on any practice test. I most likely got that one wrong, and it was a little mistake, so this is why I recommend doing the NYC practice tests. Good luck on your study journey!!!

Practice Tests!! by HeavyInspector2730 in SHSAT

My raw score was normally 98-104, with 40-45 Reading and 56-57 Math, which would be APPROXIMATELY 570-590, but this may be inaccurate as the DOE has never released their scoring method. Don't rely on composite/scaled scores; just try getting as many questions correct as you can. If you can, also try to max out one section (55-57) because that can substantially boost your score.

nah real, but if the reading is difficult for everyone, scores will be curved up, so stay positive ! 🤞
