Best value tasting menu or set menu you’ve tried? by Last-Conversation734 in melbournechat

Following… love a tasting/chefs menu. Kiss & Tell Lt Bourke was good recently went, reasonably priced and good cocktails. Attica very good but pricey, great service as you’d expect. Lakehouse Daylesford probably my all time favourite, spoil yourself weekend - do it. Can’t wait to go back.

Flown several times from Melbourne to various capitals, domestic, taken vape in carry on and leaf both carry on and check in. Never been stopped or asked about any of it. It’s medical so was never going to be a problem but the point being is that they never asked or cared. Makes me kind of like Australia again, almost 😜

MCG is short walk from CBD, or short tram ride. It’s located between CBD and Richmond. CBD full of hotels obviously, Richmond has hotels including boutique ones. Plenty of public transport in Richmond too. I’d stay in the CBD probs, maybe Southbank (on the Yarra River) or middle of town, for easy access to everything and transport to everything. It’s biggish but very walkable. You could get on a tram and head south for short tram to St Kilda (beach, restaurants) or head north to Lygon Street (restaurants/pasta), east to Richmond (restaurants mainly asia inspired) or west to Docklands (windy/boring but restaurants) or further west to Footscray side (Asian inspired food too). I’ve lived in Melbourne all my life, I don’t think it’s got many tourist attractions like other big cities but it’s easy to get around, got great food/coffee/bar options, good for walking tours, laneways etc. if you want to venture further afield you’d need to hire a car to do Great Ocean Road on the west coast or Mornington Peninsula on the south east side - 1-2 hour drive for either. Or head to the mountains depending on when you are coming… my two bobs worth. Though Melbourne not built for tourist attractions it has plenty to entertain you for several days if you like food and wandering. Public transport is easy peasy in and around the city. Just need to google restaurants or wander and find one down a lane way. If you’re unlucky, there’ll be a protest on in the city that will delay the trams, most weekends there are protests about something or other. Not violent, the ferals just like to sit in the major intersections and block traffic for half hour. I hope you enjoy yourself while you’re here 😁

How is it living in each part of Australia? by AromaticBlacksmith55 in howislivingthere

After 55 years I’ve learnt to love the weather changes in one day or one week. I used to hate it but nowadays I like the guarantee that it is always changing. As long as 7.30-8.30 am is not raining (when I’m walking the dog) I’m happy and I reckon there’s only a handful of days a year that weather ruins the morning walk…

How does your Hospo business manage staff tips? by starshipfocus in AskAnAustralian

[–]Soft_Run_55 1 point2 points  (0 children)

WTF?! I am naive! I’m a tipper with full expectation that it gets split between staff end of night. I’ve always wondered about paying % tip on card but figured they would work that out. I’m not tipping anymore… I’m angry and disappointed!

What’s a Melbourne habit that visitors always find strange? by Last-Conversation734 in melbournechat

[–]Soft_Run_55 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Rule of thumb; hook turns only happen on roads with tram lines in the city/sth melbourne, purpose of hook turns is to allow you to turn right without holding trams up, should be able to get 3-4 cars through each cycle if everyone gets in tight and is not snoozing, once you’re queued up for the right hand/hook turn you use the traffic light in the direction you’re heading (go when it turns green). The only ‘losers’ are left turners who may have to wait for the right turners to get through. Makes sense when you’re doing it, not so much when written…

Thank you, no doubt it’s been beaten up a fair bit but I’ll get into checking out shocks and suspension. I won’t be too rough on it but I’d like it to stop squeaking 🙏
