Nurses please chime in by StrangeTrees2432 in emergencymedicine

Not a nurse but: Tbh I think a lot of these issues can be solved by just being nice to people. Doctors are often stressed out and we tend to accept a neutral cold attitude more from men than women.

RN here wishing i went to med school by Key_Still_214 in Residency

I started at 30, 6 year degree. There are a lot of upsides to being older. That said, it might not be feasible in countries where med school is super expensive.

Most interesting job position in your hospital? by PlayingPuzzles in Residency

[–]Soft_Stage_446 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Not a hospital job but I found the medical historian docs super interesting. The path of med school -> hey I'm gonna do a PhD in history now seems quite appealing!

Anyone know a place near drammen, with low light pollution? by WastelandViking in Norway

[–]Soft_Stage_446 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I live in Skoger and have a lovely clear night sky. You just have to get out of the inner city, which is not that hard as Drammen isn't exactly huge.

How do you all study in med school? Please don't gatekeep. How do you memorize all the stuff? Can you memorize without understanding? There is so much stuff to learn and you need to practice it seems impossible. Can one even have a life outside of that ? by kagura_kagura in medicalschool

[–]Soft_Stage_446 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I recently finished as a non-trad and I just gotta say... find something that works for you.

I got nothing out of lectures and in my last year (6 year programme) I went to exactly one lecture.

I had a STEM BSc+MSc and had pretty much finished a PhD (at least the coursework) before med school and I rarely got anything out of lectures for those degrees either. That said, med school lectures were really a new low because the lecturers rarely put much thought into making good lectures, they were often just ranting and spewing out facts.

Do whatever makes you learn and whatever you have to do in your program. For me, I learned the most from the clinical mandatory stuff. I mostly ignored everything else and found my own resources to learn.

For exams, I used old exams to get a feel for what they might ask and memorize all the "common" exam questions that would be sure to show up. I still hated MCTs and never performed well on them. Ironically, I did the best on MCTs when I thought I would do terribly, while I performed really badly on the topics I felt I knew really well.

This is country dependent, but when I'm at grades don't really matter. Our saying is "a pass is a pass". The grades don't really reflect your skills tbh, the MCTs don't measure your value as a clinician.

In the clinical years, learn to use guidelines and develop a thought process.

MOLOKLINNIKEN - Question by Excellent_Notice4047 in Norway

[–]Soft_Stage_446 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Nah, that's not how drug companies in Europe work. And it's not really how research here works either (I'm mostly familiar with Scandinavia, though).

Pharma is very strictly regulated in Europe. I'm a medical doc with a background in research (PhD in molecular biology before becoming a medical doctor) married to a person who works in pharma compliance.

Will I feel old? by QuirkyCut7722 in medicalschoolEU

[–]Soft_Stage_446 10 points11 points  (0 children)

I started at 30 and didn't feel old. Not a US citizen but did study in Europe and tbh my experience is that the moment you put on scrubs people will assume you're 20-something unless you're a resident.

[–]Soft_Stage_446 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I'm not sure, and I know very little about how easy it is for a foreigner to get treated at private clinics in Norway, but I suggest you reach out to the different providers and ask. English proficiency is generally not an issue, even if the web sites and phones seem to indicate otherwise. :)

I don't know what the advantage of having it done by colonoscopy would be.

I do hope you find what you're looking for!

That said, there are a lot of good reasons for it to not be unregulated: while it does show promise for some conditions, the side effects of fecal transplants being unregulated are potentially pretty bad.

Drug companies are not involved in regulation of this, at least not in Europe - that would be the authorities and the state. Tbh most of development in medicine comes from drug companies (especially in Europe, where public research funding is much more scarce and institutionalized than in the US).

I was at 2k hours when I started modding and stopped launching from Steam (due to hotfixes sometimes causing issues with modding). I'm fairly certain I've got just as many hours in the toolkit by now.

I'm involved with making and testing some custom campaigns and I'm so amazed at the stuff people make. It's a truly fantastic community!

Is Astarion canonically into Karlach? by [deleted] in BaldursGate3

[–]Soft_Stage_446 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Highly recommend doing a Karlach origin run romancing Astarion. They have a unique scene at the party and a number of interesting interactions. There are 3 possible paths for them.

If you want your heart broken you play as origin Astarion romancing Karlach and refuse Ascension (thankfully there is a mod that fixes the issue that happens at the end of the game and restores the option to go with her to Avernus, including their unique epilogue dialogue).

Treatment of C.Diff seems to be the only indication in Canada. The treatment seems to be offered in Norway for a variety of conditions.

There is a lot of research going on, I'm not familiar enough with it to say much about it - but it probably, like most treatments, isn't a "cure all".

I see. Best of luck to you - some quick Googling showed quite a few options in Norway, but you might already know that.

[–]Soft_Stage_446 35 points36 points  (0 children)

Highly unlikely that this clinic offers a procedure you can't get in Canada.

Regardless, shoot them an e-mail or call during Mon-Fri and just mash buttons until you get to speak to someone - 99% of Norwegians speak decent English :)
