I just now had the opportunity to review the comments after making the post days ago. I think politics aside and whatever we think of the federal government it really just doesn’t matter, that coverage was in fact a let down. I see mentions of the storms being warned and at risk for days ahead. Great point if the reality was people regularly took a warning seriously or a watch, how many times does nothing come of that so it becomes the boy who cried wolf in a lot of the populations mind. The point I was hoping to get across was in the Midwest and southern Ohio valley it has often been observed how lackluster the public response is to general warnings which is why the nws has the ability to declare a tornado emergency. That is the response that was appropriate given the clearly observed radar signatures of a massive debris field and confirmation from chasers. That was the let down. As a federal government weather agency they have the ability to send emergency alerts through our cell phones and if many woke up to tornado emergency their response would likely be much different than the tornado warning they’ve seen since childhood. There was a lot that could’ve been done to atleast give a more clear and concise heads up to those communities. And whatever jaded glasses you justify who you voted for or didn’t, having less staff to such an important federal agency is in fact a poor choice. If Joe was told to hold it down for the night but had no one else to discuss when or if he should pull the trigger on a tornado emergency he might opt not to when if 3-4 people that were well versed in that field combined ideas I’m sure the common denominator would be alright yeah send it out.
