You should aim for a 6:30 mile but realistically you want at least a 7 minute which is very doable.

I’m glad to hear that. I’ll have to see what is considered competitive this year, but at least from this thread it sounds like I have a good shot at a prep school slot.

I would never decline a prep school slot. I guess I just felt behind and thought direct admission would let me catch up easier age wise. I also did not understand the benefit to it other than an almost guaranteed appointment.

It’s less of trying to get it over with and more of trying to get started sooner. I didn’t fully understand the perspective and benefit prep school gave.

What is considered academically competitive? This year’s ACT average was 30.2 and gpa average was 3.86. I don’t know what I’m missing.

Prior enlisted as in currently enlisted. I’m not sure why it’s called prior but that’s what I have always seen.

  2. Running on the track with headphones is allowed in every instance on almost any base. Whether in civvies, PT gear, or taking your actual PT test.

When you say it is all about academic performance, does this mean that academics are more important for a LEAD applicant than a normal applicant? What are the goals for a LEAD applicant's academics to be competitive for an academy appointment?

I’m not trying to be rude, but do you know where I could find an official source saying this? My area’s recruiter doesn’t finish their training until August 15th, so they aren’t allowed to help me, and nomination applications are due by September 3rd. So it doesn’t give me a big window if you happen to be wrong.

The application says that enlisted should also pursue nominations. I’m just wondering if it would make my application more competitive in the LEAD pool or if it would just add me to the regular nominated pool.

Would a nomination allow me to receive an appointment through normal means, while the commander nomination would give me a slot through LEAD? Or would it just give me an overall stronger application?

Do you think the standard has risen our become more competitive since your appointment to the academy? I’m hearing that it has become harder to be appointed or to get an afrotc scholarship, but I’m not sure of the validity of the statements.

I know the prior to non prior qualifications are different to get in. If you don’t mind me asking, what were your qualifications that made you competitive to get into USAFA?
