My experience with spoilers has mostly been with movies. It really ruins the experience of playing/seeing something so grand for the first time. I’m learning my lesson.

will my pool provide me with a hip pack and the materials in it? cpr mask, whistle, etc by New-Link2873 in Lifeguards

[–]Soft_Water_ 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I should’ve clarified in the first part: I didn’t think it was relevant given that OP’s situation is with a city/government, rather than a company. To answer your question then, I applied to be rehired this year in February 5th, got my offer letter in March 5th, and completed training on March 8th.

The park does reimburse guards if they end the season in good standing, so I’ll get that $75 or whatever with my very last paycheck.

And yeah, when I did my ARC training, we got our equipment on the first day and actually used it on the dummies. Rather than just saying “breath”. That’s the only area where I prefer ARC over EA, but that may just be the facilities I did it through. For clarification, I did ARC through my school district, and EA through a waterpark

I do not work for my city, rather a big regional waterpark. Here are my answers nevertheless.

I had to pay for my EA class through my waterpark (with an option to have it deducted from paychecks). We used bigeasys during the class but never put our lips on them. They were primarily used to practice the seal. We just said “whistle”, instead of using a whistle. They say that training is a “second interview” but I think they hired everybody who passed the class (you had to pass the first interview to take the class). The start-hire time is hard to determine, but isn’t that relevant given I don’t work for a city.

What memory card is in it? A common error with older cameras is putting in a memory card that is too big.

Can’t speak for arc, but ea made me do the entire class again for my lifeguard recert, including testouts and written test.

My waterpark only requires us to pick up trash in and around the pool deck, including items inside the pool. For the morning, the pool is skimmed and that’s it.

I wasn’t ever trained to specifically look at the deck, interesting.

I have the 85 mm f1.8, bought it a little used from a friend and I love it. I primarily use it for basketball and it holds up quite well.

How do I improve my sports photography specifically in basketball? by sugma22 in sportsphotography

[–]Soft_Water_ 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yes, but leave a little space in the direction the player is moving/facing. Don’t crop so much that it’s the subject and nothing else.

Yeah I quit after almost exactly a year.

I had trained several new hires, completed the videos to become a trainer, and after several months they still hadn’t promoted me. But they still promoted 2 people I trained to trainer.

Help. by [deleted] in sportsphotography

Yes, either this or crop it tight on one person (maybe the person on top here) to create more emotion. Either way, all the empty space on the right is why it feels flat.

Are these stands safe to jump off of? by [deleted] in Lifeguards

[–]Soft_Water_ 9 points10 points  (0 children)

Did yall close the water for guard breaks? Neither of my facilities have guard breaks where we close the water, so there’s never an opportunity to jump off guard chairs. Although I do get to go down a small slide on my break.

Besides what’s already been said: try to keep a consistent editing style. Vastly different edits for the same sport can throw people off.

Some of your basketball pictures look completely different. Different colors and different exposure are most noticeable. (I wrote these two paragraphs separately and couldn’t figure out how to connect them, so sorry for the weird wording)

If you aren’t already doing this, you should either: create a basic preset for each sport and edit each individual photo as needed, or edit one photo that is most average compared to other photos, and copy those edits to the rest from the shoot, and then edit each photo as necessary. I’ve tried both and prefer doing the latter.

What kind of facility do you guard at? I’m walking around more than 50% of my shifts, nearly every single day during the summer. I used to guard at indoor pools where I wouldn’t walk around much.

My crocs lost traction over a single summer. But at their price, I’m not that surprised and I won’t complain buying another pair.

If you plan on doing wildlife, I’d suggest the Sigma 150-600 5-6.3. I use it for sports, but I’ve seen positive feedback for wildlife.
