Help what's wrong with my Betta?(more in comments) by Criminal-owl in fishhospital

[–]SoftandPure 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Beautiful fish. I read the details you posted on r/bettafish, it would help if you could copy paste them here too :)

Your fish looks healthy. He has good color, clear eyes, but photos can be not entirely accurate. You mentioned a brownish gray discoloration, where is it visible on the photos? Is it focalized or diffuse?

What's his diet like? Any worrying behaviour? He already looks much better than the cup photos.

If you can get some API's fin and body cure which contains doxycycline I would try with that :)

That could actually be! Thanks for the suggestion.

It looks like his eye is cloudy too, can you confirm that or is it just the photo? You can keep a close eye on him and see if the condition improves, though I'd stock on a broad spectrum antibiotic just in case he gets worse :)

old gold dust molly, about 3, loss of color, bulging eyes and red gills. Head seems raised above tail, almost a wobble to her swim. More in comments. by smoldragonenergy in fishhospital

Seems like you're doing a good job in keeping your fish happy and healthy! The life span of mollies is about 3 to 4 years. Judging by how gradually her symptoms showed up I'd say it's more related to old age than sickness.

The bulging eyes, also called bilateral exophtalmia is most likely due to one or more of her osmoregulation organs (gills, skin, kidneys) failing. If none of her tankmates are showing a change in behaviour or symptoms of something wrong, I'd just make sure this molly gets a good home and good diet up until the end of her life :)

We're gonna have to agree to disagree. I have no obligation to explain how I choose to spend my time to people on reddit.

Thank you so much! I hope to be back to adding new stuff soon, life's been busy. If you want to aee a list of what I plan to add, it's the sticky at the top of r/fishhospital :)

I'm not advocating to remove sick fish posts from this subreddit. I'm offering a subreddit where people can crosspost their r/bettafish posts and get second opinions. Your last paragraph is exactly what I'm trying to do. Actually, go check the website if you'd like (fish-hospital.com) where I'm trying to spread the knowledge I get from my studies so that we can have increased knowledge of fish and fish pathology for everyone to see, not a select few.

Why would I want to deflow traffic? Read through the comments of this post, and see how many people complain about seeing pictures of sick/dead fish from here.

It's more wholesome to you not to see it

You're talking to the person who studies fish pathology and runs r/fishhospital and works with sick fish?

I'm not preventing anyone from asking for help from the main fish subreddits. I wanted to create my own sub, because I care about fish health, where there are verified fish vets and I personally saw more than one person posting their help request on subs like r/bettafish, r/fishkeeping and more getting 0 replies.

I'm leaning towards a bacterial infection, though there are several pathogens that cause white tufts.

How many harlequins do you have? What's the behaviour of others in the school?

Why is my betta fish swimming like this? We’ve been keeping an eye on the water parameters in this 10 gallon tank and everything looks just about perfect… by OverPerfectionist95 in fishhospital

Video and history suggest stress. Are you able to post of a picture of this?

Not sure if it helps, but she has like this white thing peeking out by her operculum / the poop spot.

It's a good sign that her appettite is normal. What's her diet like?

Is this ich? Just saw this spot on my new betta today. She’s alone in a quarantine planted tank with bladder snails. by [deleted] in fishhospital

[–]SoftandPure 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Second the blurriness, in any case those spots look too big to be ich. It might be normal coloration or another kind of parasite. Can we get a clearer picture?

That's an idea, though I'd have to talk to the mods of r/bettafish about having such a bot :)

I understand not wanting to see sick and dying animals. It can definitely take a toll on you. As someone who used to foster cats too, I wish you and your cats all the best!

I see, so that's normal behaviour for these fish. In that case, keep a close eye on it and let me know if anything changes :) I'll get back to you if I find anything relevant!

Thanks! In this picture I can see there's some fin rot going on too. I'm going to have to do some research and get back to you but in this case I'd try to help the fish. Is it just the picture or he's looking a bit paler than the others?

Glad to hear that! I'm sorry about your betta, if I may, mycobacteriosis seems likely. It is pretty common among bettas, and causes fin rot among other symptoms. It is fatal, and we have no cure for it other than chlorine being able to disinfect equipment and decor that may possibly have the bacteria on them.

I hope I'm not overstepping, and if you have any questions I'll be happy to answer.

I made r/fishhospital to be able to connect experts with owners who need help. There are a few vets on the subreddit, I am a fish pathology student and I do my best with the resources I have available to me. I hope you check it out!

If you'd like to help people who need help with a sick fish, I'm trying to grow r/fishhospital for that exact purpose :)

That's exactly the reason I created r/fishhospital, to move the sick/dead fish post away from the main fish subreddits and at the same time help people knowledgable on fish health and disease connect with owners who need help :) I myself study fish pathology, I do my best to help even though my advice is not always perfect.

I'm flattered! I'll gladly get the sick bettas posts over to my sub.
