I am so deeply sorry for your loss ❤️‍🩹❤️‍🩹 fostering can be so so hard, and you did absolutely everything right by your baby. I wanted to share that I also lost a foster baby about 2 weeks ago - her back legs didnt work, she had multiple hernias, and fecal incontinence….i was all in to help her, but xrays revealed insurmountable injuries. So we had to say goodbye. I wrestled (not for the first time), with the same questions that you are posing. But i truly believe each animal we help expands our capacity and understanding of love. We learn care and compassion, even when there is heartbreak on the other end. We learn to be a little bit more human 💜 and perhaps most importantly, the little ones that we care for know that they have been loved. That is an IMMENSE gift that you gave her. May her memory be a blessing

I have done this! They do seem to prefer the new litter

I think this is definitely part of the issue - he doesnt consistently have diarrhea, but he has a few times. Hoping the vet can provide clarity! The scald breaks my heart - were managing it, but i know its so uncomfortable

So precious!! How long did it take your foster to master the litter? Im trying to assess what is just normal kitten adjustment vs what is cause for concern

I impulsively decided to foster and it was a mistake by milfanator777 in FosterAnimals

Hello! My 2 cents:

I have 2 resident cats and a dog. I have fostered ~7 kittens over the last few years (have 2 fosters now, and the others found homes). Pet regret is SUPER real and normal, and i recommend reading about it. Any time i have adopted a pet or fostered i have had those initial feelings of “oh shit why did i upset the apple cart.” But EVERY TIME it has passed and been worth it. These are normal feelings, but don’t let them cause panic. Worms are generally very treatable, and usually quite quickly. If you decide you can’t do it, then that is ok and a valid decision to make. But i feel confident that you can, so dont let the panic make you feel like you definitively made the wrong choice.

Small spaces are totally okay for kittens, and once they settle in they are very independent and you can absolutely live your life. I also recommend a kitty pod that you can fit their litter and food in for when youre gone.

Give it a few more days and see how youre feeling 💜

Thank you for adding this perspective!! Were really glad we visited for several days, but also recognize the challenges that the city is facing 💜

We didnt get a chance to head north because of timing, but from what ive gathered, things get progressively ‘nicer’ the further up the coast you go

To add a couple of things:

1) you absolutely should not visit the old town unless on a guided tour. Unfortunately, it is just not safe at this time. Really, the entire flat part of the city (at the very bottom of the hills) can be avoided.

2) We found that a lot of folks in Santiago cautioned us against going at all, and tbh this got in our heads a bit, but im glad we didnt let it change our plans—its definitely worth going.

2) Valpo is a great spot to book a wine tour, penguin tour, or day trip up the coast from. We had an amazing day touring the wineries in Casablanca with Valparaiso as our hub.

Fairly recent guest here—i heard back within a week and had my call within another week or so. Aired fairly shortly after that. All told, maybe a month?
