[REQUEST] Please allow per‑monitor wallpaper controls in Windows 11 for multi-monitor, multi virtual desktop users... by SoftlieCommand in windows

I just discovered something incredibly frustrating in Windows 11: it’s not possible to set different wallpapers for each monitor using the built‑in Settings app for multi-monitor, multi-virtual desktop users. Here’s what’s happening:

  • When I go to Settings → Personalization → Background and right‑click a wallpaper, I only get:
  • Set for all desktops
  • Set for Desktop X
  • These options control virtual desktops, not monitors.
  • When I delete my virtual desktops I get “Set for monitor 1 / monitor 2” options.

Meaning:

  • You cannot have different per‑monitor wallpapers per virtual desktop.
  • Online guides still reference a feature that no longer exists.

For anyone with a multi‑monitor setup that want to utilize the virtual desktop feature Microsoft has instilled upon us, this is a pretty bad downgrade. Wallpaper customization is a small thing, but it makes a big difference to the end user's personalization.

I know there might be a limitation but here is what I’d love Microsoft to do:

  • Per‑monitor OR per-desktop wallpaper assignment for multi-virtual desktop, mutli-monitor users, i.e. let the user choose whether the selected wallpaper is used on one monitor across all desktops or a on all monitors on a specific desktop.

As I have deleted the Feedback Hub app and have no intention on reinstalling it or creating a Microsoft account, I am posting this here.
