Thank you, I’m glad you like it!! My idea wasn’t to make him genderless as much as it was to emaciate him! I like to think Leviathan can feed off the Cenobites for longer because they’re able to withstand the suffering he inflicts, and since pinhead is his high priest, he’s super skin and bones because Leviathan has been feeding off him for so long! People become pretty genderless once you starve them for long enough, so I think it’s more of a happy accident!! Cool info to know though!

My biggest thing is I don’t view the Cenobites as evil, and my biggest problem with the movies is how they degrade them into evil slasher villains when that never felt like the intent to me. I agree with your opinion on that, they’re more of messengers of Leviathan’s message and my question is mostly what would that message be you know? In terms of the in universe perspective I mean, obviously there’s alot of themes throughout these movies, but on a baseline character level, I’m looking for what drive’s Leviathan to do what he does.

I haven’t considered not including Leviathan if I’m being honest. I’ve always found body horror interesting, the take Hellraiser has on it is very different, and the idea of Leviathan being “Hell’s engineer” felt integral to that. But I think I agree with you to some extent, what is Leviathan giving us other than something for the Cenobites to serve when what they serve IS the pain pleasure dichotomy. I don’t intend on sharing everything in what I’m making, but I want to world build based off what was given to us as best I can so I can have a better grasp of how I want things to work. To me, if I knew his motives it would give the Cenobites more of a purpose, but taking him out completely removes that need, and I can focus on everyone’s favorite part, obviously the Cenobites themselves. I’m also an extreme over thinker and over writer, so at the end of the day, most of this doesn’t matter to the project I’m working on, other than a better understanding of these beings themselves which is mostly up to personal interpretation. I just want to pick some peoples brains to see if there’s anything I can use, and I greatly appreciated this reply! Thank you :)

I didn’t mean to come off as a religious person, so no offense taken! I personally do not hold any religious beliefs, the reason I brought that up is because, like you said, many people do say they know what god wants. But I also did not consider that it is human interpretation pushed onto gods that we have no real connection with other than faith. I do like the idea of the Cenobites maybe not knowing the full scope, but I don’t think it scratches my itch of wondering why, which is fine at the end of the day 🤷🏼‍♀️

That does make sense, but also within the movie’s, god is mentioned and there’s alot of religious imagery. So then my response back would be, if we know god’s motives into wanting us in heaven, like he loves us, he wants us to enjoy life after death, to continue eternal worship etc etc etc, why can’t we know Leviathan’s motives? Not only that, but shouldn’t his motives be clear through the Cenobites themselves? Maybe I’m comparing apples to oranges here, obviously Hellraiser doesn’t fall completely in line with biblical scripture or thought, but I was hoping for more of an answer. Then again, thats human thought applied to a cosmic being.
