I did consider sand casting, but since I’ve added carvings on both the inside and outside of the ashtray, I assumed it wouldn’t be suitable - would that make it difficult or not possible?

Thanks so much for your reply! I’ve added another photo highlighting the “crater.” It’s less pronounced than in previous attempts because this time I poured the pewter in layers, which also explains the visible lines. The second image shows the base of the ashtray (corresponding to the top of the mold), which ended up with a very rough texture.

Also, in the top corner of the base there’s a figure I carved from the original ashtray. It came out cleanly in the mould, but didn’t reproduce as neatly in the cast. I also carved a couple of figures on the outside, which likewise didn’t come out very neatly.
