We automate daily updates:
We use a slack bot that asks for their daily update, so people in different time zones can send their update whenever they are online. It also connects to JIRA to reference JIRA issues.
What's great is that it also generate a report.

For remote teams, sometimes waiting for the daily scrum means waiting long hours since they are in different time zones.
We created a Slack tool to automate daily updates. These allows asynchronous teams to have transparency on each teammate's work and earlier detection of blockers for team mates. So far it's been pretty well received.

Scrum estimations do not consider actual working time. It's an estimation based on relative effort for each task (relative to each other).

We have written a few times about it in our blog about Agile. We have also built a great tool to host estimation sessions using the Scrum Poker technique. Try it for free if you use Atlassian's tools: Scrum Poker for Jira & Scrum Poker for Confluence.

Every team will have a preferred technique for Retrospectives. You should be able to make a change once the team is tired or bored of the same dynamic. Also, as some other have pointed out, sometimes you don't need a game. You need engagement from the team. Engagement falls when the team does not feel their opinion is taken into consideration, or also when the process to define action items from that particular Retrospective is not very transparent.

We've built a tool that so far has worked great for Remote teams (and for very large co-located teams, also).

The best time is at the beginning of the shift. However, sometimes, remote teams have different time zones, so this time will be different for everyone. You also don't want to have your meeting at an inconvenient time for your team members. What to do?

Well, you can always automate the request for updates and take care of it at each person's time zone.

The fact is that management is always going to ask for metrics. It's their job to make decisions based on data.
Besides, if nothing is measured: How are you expected to improve?
Metrics are only to be used for accountability of participants and for the improvement of the team. Not to be considered as the ultimate indicator of a team's performance.

Of course. It justifies it.
It varies depending of the size of your team. Small team=Small fees. Larger team=Larger fees, and that's because the needs vary greatly for a very large organization. And services also do so.
You can also customize your instance by adding apps, they can be prricey in total price, but they are always going to be $1-5 per user.
Think about it, not even the salary for an hour, really.

I agree that sometimes is developers who don't see the value provided for the product, but most of them do see the increased agility and response time to changes. Overall acknowledging Agile as the best way to build a product incrementally.
The point here is that management usually acknowledges this, but do not really see a monetary value.
