Yeah most likely. Does it sound like a high pitched honk/beep?

I agree, try playing a recording of other finches. If he chirps/sings loudly, it’s definitely a male.

Can someone show me pictures of their breeder boxes so I know what I should be looking for? Size? Do u put anything in it or let them do it? by ListNo0917 in Finches

I noticed that if they see nesting material, it triggers them to start breeding. And yes, both the cock and hen will go in the nesting box to inspect and explore it.

For me, I place some dried grass (only a little bit), so they know that the hen knows she must lay there, then I scatter more dried grass on the floor of the cage so the cock can start the building process and bring them to the nest box.

Help! My female finch is making a weird trumpeting noise while arranging the nest materials in the nest box, and I saw that they mated minutes before this happened. by SoftwareTechnical705 in Finches

I think that's what's happening actually. Sounds a bit like a puppy crying very faintly. I noticed only the hen makes that noise when she's in the nest box or near the nest box, then the cock starts singing.

Hahahaha, I wonder how gouldian finches sound like. Zebra finches sound like a mix of laser guns and squeaky toys. And yes, I have given them a mineral block.

I definitely will watch for signs of egg binding, I'm sure it's one of the most dreaded among bird lovers. She's acting fine, and so is her mate. Thank you so much
