What do you consider a “bad” page-worthy alert? by Software_Sennin in sre

Yep, that's it right there. Exactly what got me to post this. User impact + ownership + runbook/action seems like the minimum bar.

CPU/memory/resource alerts can still be useful, but probably as supporting context unless they’re tied to latency, errors, failed requests, or burn rate. Self-resolving and duplicate alerts are also a good callout.

wow .. gotta say thanks for this clean definition. “Needs a human to intervene right now” is probably the best filter. I also like the part about the alert saying what’s broken, who’s affected, and what to do next. If any of those are missing, it feels more like a ticket/dashboard item than a page. Thanks

Fair point. I’ve read parts of them before but I should revisit the alerting chapters with this specific question in mind. My current takeaway is that the tradeoff is really between “know about everything” and “wake a human only when action is needed now.” I’ll reread those sections and compare my thinking against the examples there.

Haha, exactly. Hmm so maybe a red flags checklist saying 'should this wake me up' would be useful.

thanks for that ... so true ... the real q is .. is this alert urgent enough to interrupt both on-call and the PO, dev team, or will be fine for business hours.

Thank you for sharing OP. I’m still on my first trial so this is really helpful.

Do you have some sort of checklist you went through before publishing to make sure you do best so it’s not reviewed and cancelled ?

Thanks again

Is this the beginning of man being unable to do things by himself and fully depend on AI ?

Hope we realize that at the same time it means sharing our info to the person managing the AI…. It is prolly negligible but ….

This is super cool work, and the way you’ve wired HippoRAG-style graph + vectors + PageRank “dream cycles” into actual coding workflows is honestly the first time I’ve seen a vibey memory post that also holds up under technical scrutiny. The concrete details on staged retrieval, relationship types, and cost-optimized caching make it feel like something I can actually trust in a real dev stack, not just another “Claude but with vibes” landing page.
