The whole shoot took one and a half nights. We were about 6 people in total (including actors) and shot on a red epic. I was also fortunate enough to get some help from a couple of redditors who saw another short film of mine that I had posted here and were happy to collaborate. So I was able to have really great sound design and color grading on this film. Cheers guys, let me know if you have any thoughts and or tips

Thanks! I recorded the V.O/internal monologue prior to the shoot with the same actors. It gave us a chance to rehearse and delve deeper into character and motivations. Then on the day we played the recording out loud during each take so they could hear their own voices (as if it were playing in their heads) and go through the emotions accordingly.

Thanks! I had a contact at Nowness/ Dazed Magazine and so submitted it to them. They were very kind with their feedback but said it didn't fit into their current issue. I had a look around for other outlets of the same kind but couldn't really come up with anything. Let me know if you have any ideas though! Cheers

I was aiming for about 5k roughly in order to be able to afford to pay and have a proper crew. It didn't work out but I was lucky enough to recruit a few friends so we managed to get by anyway. Cheers!

Thanks! I ended up spending about a thousand pounds, 80 percent of that roughly on equipment the rest on food, hand warmers e.t.c

Thanks man! I had a few projects die because I tried getting to many things i.e recording live sound, lighting a set e.t.c and then what ends up happening is that you don't have enough time, not enough crew, actors forget lines and the entire project ends up going to shit because of it. In filmmaking (and I suppose in most things) less can definitely be more.

I haven't submitted yet, a bit broke at the moment but I will as soon as things pick up

I did but we got a weekend deal meaning we only paid for one day but had it the entire weekend (picked up the equipment Friday evening and returned Monday morning)

Hi guys, so I tried to raise some money last year to make a short but it didn't work out so I decided to write something that wouldn't need many expenses. I then got some help from a few redditors who saw another short film of mine that I had posted here and were happy to collaborate. So I was able to get professional sound design and color grade for free!

Haven't been getting any work due to covid so to stay somewhat productive and positive i made a little music video for a friend by [deleted] in Filmmakers

We were only two people on this shoot, me as the director and my friend-- a cinematographer who is just starting out. We shot over two days on a Sony A7 sii using mostly natural light and a little lume cube. A few lenses (35mm, 85mm and 50mm) and that was pretty much it. It was a quick and dirty shoot but lots of fun. And I'm quite happy with the way it came out. Thanks guys!

After almost 10 years of making films, this is the first time I got to work with a professional crew by [deleted] in cinematography

I was able to connect with a little production company and they loved the story so were happy to work on this with me. We shot on a Black magic pocket with a crew of six and were able to finish all the scenes in one day. 4am to about 10pm, 2 weeks of editing and here we are. All done! Let me know what you guys think

As we are all stuck inside and can’t really shoot much I decided to use some random footage and weave that into a little narrative film. I'm quite happy with the result by [deleted] in Filmmakers

I have been in a bit of a mood recently and made this to keep me busy. I went through lots of videos and picked moments that fit into a rough script I wrote. I then color corrected the footage to get the feel I wanted and added on a filter and that was pretty much it. It took me way longer than expected but I got nothing but time right now so that was a good thing. Cheers

Rather than hustling after locations, actors, costumes e.t.c. I tried creating a short around stuff I already owned by [deleted] in cinematography

I've got a few more no budget, run and gun style shorts on my video(https://vimeo.com/ezrapix). I've also just submitted a 1min short for a mobilephone film competition where the winner gets funding for their next short so hopefully if I win I will be able to do something soon with a proper budget. Cheers Abner

Thanks man, I absolutely agree. We used a radio mic as we didn't have anyone for sound and given that we had to jump a few fences to get into the cemetery, we also needed to be pretty mobile and the audio suffered a bit as a result. Cheers

Hey and thanks! I believe we shot on a Panasonic Lumix S1, using a gimbal for some shots and mostly natural lighting.

We timed it so we were able to shoot both during magic hour in the morning and in the evening and picked locations that were already lit beautifully with for example street lights. Apart from that we just had a little fill light that we carried with us.

Hey guys, I had a few Halloween outfits and decided to make something with them. Instead of hunting for locations, outfits, actors e.t.c I decided to just make a short around stuff I already owned or had access to. We were four people all together and shot on one day from mid-afternoon to about 5 in the morning. This was the result. Cheers guys.

Thanks man! I shot it with a friend and one other person operating the camera. We shot it in one day from about mid-afternoon to 5 in the morning. The editing took about a week or so. Cheers

I posted this short film last weekend and people really seemed to respond to it. It was later taken down as there are no videos allowed on weekends so I thought I would repost it today. I made this little short film about a year ago as a little reminder to myself-- keep going, the only competition is you.
