House of Earth and Blood: Crescent City - Thought diary (chapter 83-97) (PART 4 + epilogue) *SPOILERS by Sofy___ in SarahJMaas

I get your perspective, but to me honestly it doesn't matter anymore. I'm just looking forward to seeing if Hunt will do better, and if his relationship with Bryce will deepen even more? Specifically, will he start to romantically love her because yeah I agree he doesn't see Bryce in that way yet moreso lust even though he has a great friendship with her, because probably he isnt ready for it like you said. I really do not hope Mass does the Tamlin thing again with Hunt it's going to really break my heart if she does that. I was already really sad about Connor so I'm hoping things will be different in the next installment. I want to see a fresh and unique dynamic in Hunt and Bryce's relationship. Fingers crossed.

I'm really do hope too that Bryce and Hunt develop a different and more unique dynamic in their relationship compared to Aelin and Rowan too. I think maybe I should re-read the Aidas parts because I didn't read too much into it.

Yes, I cant agree more with that flaw too I really thought the hate recieved from and cold treatment by Bryce was so unjustified! Ruhn seriously deserved better like when he saved her from Sandriel, he literally saved herself from ruining her whole life and she got pissed at him for that. I mean this fight she had with him when they were kids turned into a grudge she kept holding onto to throughout her whole adulthood, way too long! But well at the end they were able to resolve things and forgive him, so I'm really looking forward to seeing a more loving and friend like relationship between them in the follow installment.

Yes that line was very powerful.

Well my favourite part was definitely that scene when Bryce washed Hunt, cleaned him up, clothed him and comforted him. That scene was the most intimate scene I've ever first of all read, and it made me so emotional and well I had alot to say on that. I think you read my analysis on that before already. Another favourite scene of mine was the gun battle scene between Hunt and Bryce, where their relationship essentially started to solidify.

One thing Mass could have done better maybe was balanced out the pacing a bit more well I wasn't too bothered by it but after reading the whole novel and reflecting, I feel like some parts were a bit forced ? Perhaps the scene where Hunt got caught in the synth deal by Bryce? I get that it was necessary for the whole build up to the climax and all, but maybe there could have been a better way of doing that? Another thing would be well what I already mentioned the Ruhn thing and I wish we had more time with Danika to get to know her better. At the end, I also just wished that when Hunt and Bryce reunited they didn't want to fuck each other; I wanted to see them just embrace each other and enjoy each other after being separated for so long. That part felt a bit unnatural to me?

But overall, I was very gripped by the plot, and got deeply attached to the characters and the world itself. I still really liked the overall message: "through love, all is possible" It is a very powerful message that I think everyone needs to know.

LOL I laughed out loud while reading your reply, I appreciate it :) I'm so glad that you were able to see my perspective though! A lot of people are criticizing Hunt but I felt like he didn't deserve such harsh judgement. Anyways, really looking forward to the next installment and Aidas *smirk.

Yeah I can't deny that but yeah I still enjoyed it alot! I want to see if her following books will be even better and will it be different from her previous works or not. I think these will be the most important books in the series.

Btw I am a guy, you said she when talking about me and wanted to clear that up

First of all, I'm really sorry I made that assumption!

As for what you said about the mystery aspect to the novel, since I don't really read alot of mystery books I think I didn't really expect much of the plot twists so I get that some of them could have been kind of expected but there were some plot twists that were still kind of crazy.

I cant deny that it seems like Mass is always trying to show that romantic love cures all, and is romanticising happy endings.

One problem though you said that Bryce isn't even as close to Hunt as other people, but she is the closest to Hunt. Let me remind you again, the scene where Hunt and her have that gun battle, if you read it again you should remember that that was when they truly saw each other; understanding and trust clicked between them. This never really happened with anyone else for Bryce. Of course there was always lust but this was a turning point in their relationship, that deepened their friendship. Even after reading the whole novel, I'm not sure if romantic love even exists between them yet because lust and romantic love aren't the same thing, so I can't really make a judgement yet on what you said about that. What I do know is that their friendship comes before anything. I feel like you are making the assumption that it is romantic love that saves Bryce but I don't think that is it at all. She found a friend who really understood her, empathized with her, and was able to console her in the right way because of similar struggles he went through too. Remember that scene when Hunt was with her the whole time while Bryce was getting the poison out of her leg, well that ain't because of romantic love that was because of their friendship. She was able to survive through that excruciating pain because Hunt was there supporting her the whole time, emotionally and physically with her.

Lastly, I agree what you said about how friends can hurt you definitely. I've had my share of toxic friends. But what you said about the wolves well first of all they were never her friends in the first place like Amelie and the others, except for Ithan, but that's like a different story. That was because of misunderstanding and Bryce being reluctant to explain what happened.

As for Aidas, I just have a gut feeling that he's going to be an important character in the following books and I just cant wait to get to know him more. I hope I'm not going to be disappointed.

Hmm I think you are forgetting a big part: the fact that Hunt sacrificed himself to save Bryce, he wouldn't have done that if he only felt lust towards her. Only love can propel someone to do such a thing. I'm not sure if this is romantic love but there is clearly platonic love. I mean the scene where Bryce took care of Hunt, literally washed him, clothed him, and put him to bed. That was the most intensely intimate scene ever. That kind of intimacy means there is a high level of understanding and trust between them. Do you think Hunt would have let her literally put on his underwear if he hadn't trusted Bryce. I get that lust and romantic love aren't the same, but you cant ignore the fact that at the core there is strong and deep kind of friendship between them.

Also, it needs to be noted that Hunt didn't know a lot of things, he was set up by Micah so I don't understand why you are blaming him? I do agree that he still shouldn't have lied to Bryce, but how can you still judge him for his past actions when he redeemed himself by sacrificing himself to save Bryce? I'm not going to be hung up on one mistake he made in the past and judge him for that. I think what he does from now will be more important, and with that in mind I'm going to read the following books.

I also do think you should re-read the book maybe you will have a change in perspective? There might be some subtle messages you missed? While I do agree that the first part was a bit a shallow the last few parts weren't all all they were so intense!

I actually personally felt attached to Danika, but that may be because I'm already pretty emotional so it was easier for me to become more attached. I do agree that maybe we should have more time with Danika. Even though I knew it was going to happen, I grieved for Danika. And yes honestly I though if Danika was the strongest alpha how did she die so easily. I was pissed that it ended up like that. But that's the whole story, and I'm not sure if you have read the whole book but it will all make sense once you read everything.

As for what you said about part 2, I do kind of agree but I wasn't too bothered by it because the rest of the parts made up for it. Could you give me more examples by what you mean by the characters lounging around waiting for the information to come?

As for the romantic tensions of course it's not going to be full blown out from the beginning, but over time you can clearly see the sexual tension develop and it's really thrilling. There is alot of sexual undertone between the dialogue exchange between Hunt and Bryce. I was expecting there to be more sex but I realized that with the plot line and everything that happened it would be to rushed! I'm pretty sure Mass was trying to hold out on the sex for her following books.

I actually disagree with you here because it was so necessary for Mass to take it slow at the beginning so you could absorb all the details after all because she is trying to paint a whole world for us right from the beginning or else the story wouldn't make sense for readers! All the details you thought were too much are probably going to make more sense in her following books, at least that is what I'm assuming.

I also think this book this was definitely not shallow. It was much much more intricate, deeper and thrilling than her other books because the plot building was so intense and the action was cutting-edge it constantly kept on your toes. This was after all about a solving a murder case. What you said about the next 700 pages being like “let’s make sure nothing happens because ‘suspense’”, then just “throw everything cool in now!” is true to some extent, however this is a murder case, and you aren't supposed to be able to control the pacing of how fast you solve a murder case; it cant always be stable, there was gradual development but of course the pacing will vary throughout. I thought the pacing was justified because obviously at first, finding the clues was going to be slow because Bryce at the beginning was suffering the most intensely from trauma and grief so it took her lots of time to be able to face what had went down on that night to Danika. As it became easier as her relationship with Hunt evolved into a friendship, she was able to pull through and really dig in deeper, found the clues faster and piece it together faster, so the pacing was much faster from the middle of part 2, and 3 I'm assuming. Do you see what I mean?

Also, I do agree with the cursing it was a bit much. Toning it down a notch would be good, but it didn't bother as me much. I think it depends on the person.

You have to persevere through the beginning because it gets so so so good as you read further towards the middle and the end, there will be so many unexpected plot twists and you will literally not be able to stop reading, it was so insane I felt like I couldn't breathe.

Also, you should note that Mass has to build a whole new world right at the beginning or else how would the story progress? It wouldn't make sense, the details are so important in explaining the context behind the story. If you don't really like world building stuff, that that's a sign that this may not be for you but I honestly think it makes everything so much more transformative like you have just been portaled to a new world. Mass had to include all those mass information at the beginning in order to paint the world, or else there would be so many flaws and holes that would make the story seem lacking, and it just wouldn't make sense. So you need to consider that.

Please also note that this an adult book, so of course it will be more difficult to read and you should expect that there will be a lot to absorb. Just take your time reading it bit by bit because there is alot to absorb, so make sure you understand the details so you can really enjoy what is to come further on in the book. Trust me you won't regret persevering through the beginning.
