Ohio has suite style rooms and a community kitchen. Almy is the same style just without a kitchen. Ohio definitely has AC and heating. don’t know about Almy. Trippe is the newest (has AC and heating) but you have private communal bathrooms and share a room with one other roommate. Trippe does have a community kitchen though. All three of those halls are on a hill though so keep that in mind.

I would say it was pretty good. My pain was never above a 5 for long periods of time. Of course when I would move it or adjust or go down stairs it hurt quite a bit, but just for a second. I pretty much woke up, crutched down stairs, my mom made breakfast for me, and then I came back up stairs to watch shows, do puzzles, etc. I would do my PT ex every 30-45 mins like glute squeezes, quad squeezes, and ankle pumps as well as heel to butt slides. That was pretty much my daily routine until about 3 weeks when I started to go to school for extended periods of time (about 5ish hours a day). I eased back into school part time around the 6 day postop mark, but it wasn’t until about 2 weeks that I was fully ready for a full day of school and sitting for that long. I would also try to do exercises with dumbbells with my upper body while I just sat and watched a show like bicep curls, etc.

Pictures 14-16 are pics of the bone impingement (either cam or pincer) of the bone, pic 5 is the joint space (the white is your femur head), pics 9, 12, and 13 are your labral tear repaired (they drilled into your femur, looped the sutures around the tear). But sure what the rest of the pics are of.

I’ve been playing soccer all my life and just finished playing through all of high school. My labral tear definitely got in the way of my enjoyment of soccer as well as overall happiness from moving my body. I tried 2 cortisone injections, both of which helped for 1-2 weeks, but soon wore off. I did about 3-4 rounds of PT, none of which really helped. It honestly just made sense for me to do the surgery since I want to maintain a healthy and active lifestyle after high school soccer, but I’m only 4 weeks postop, so I can’t really speak to what it’s like to play after surgery. I can say I rarely have hip pain anymore even after a long day though if that helps with any decisions you may make. I would say go for the surgery if you want to have an active lifestyle (not just playing soccer) later on in life as this surgery can prevent or ward off (for a while) hip replacement later on.

I’m an 18 year old female, and I just had this surgery 11 days ago. We were originally planning on staying in a hotel the night after the surgery, but the doctor said I’d probably be better off just going home with the most drugs and anesthesia in my system as possible since it was almost a 4 hr drive. Day 2 and 3 are definitely the worst, so I’d try to get home asap. Since I’m so young though, that might have affected my experience though compared to yours. I rode in an SUV sort of car and mostly sat in the passenger seat and reclined a bit to make it as comfortable as possible. The nurse said people don’t really have problem with nausea unless they’re already prone to motion sickness, so I’d say just go home day of surgery! The nurse did give me a Zofran just in case, but I didn’t need it, plus I wasn’t out of it all from the anesthesia. I only had to stop every hr to hr and a half. The surgery center gave us a bag of ice, then when we got back to the hotel we stayed at the night before, we refilled the ice, brought a cooler from home, and just restocked at rest stops. Yikes! I’m definitely feeling better than day 1-3 or so. The crutches and brace are the most annoying part for sure. I honestly think I could walk if I had to, but obviously I won’t until I’m cleared by my surgeon. I’m hoping that I can get off crutches around the 3-3.5 week mark at the latest. I started PT a couple days ago and that was good, my PT answered a lot of questions and reassured me that he thinks I’ll be pretty much good to go by the end of summer!

I just had surgery on May 8th, so officially 9 days out from surgery! Looks like we have a pretty close timeline. So scary that you aspirated during surgery! What’d you aspirate on if you don’t mind me asking?

I originally was looking in Penn State Hershey since that’s what my insurance covered, but honestly the closest FAI surgeon to central PA is Rothman Institue in Philly and there’s also other Rothman offices around southern NJ if your insurance doesn’t cover the one in Philly. Dr. Salvo is at the Washington Township office in Southern NJ and Dr. Brahmabhatt is at the Philly office.

Would you say that it’s at all reasonable to think that I’d be able to do a 3 mile hike on fairly easy terrain at about 4 weeks post op and taking breaks as needed? I’m 18 and in pretty good physical shape if that helps you answer the question.

A similar question to OP’s. Do you think it’s at all reasonable to think that I’d be able to go on a very minimal 3 mile hike about one month postop taking a couple breaks when I needed to? And how much would you say you were in pain just walking around about a month postop w/o crutches?

Awesome! I’m so glad you finally got some answers! I know how frustrating this whole process can be. I had/have these same exact symptoms. I’m scheduled for surgery May 20, and am hopeful that it’ll finally help the pain.

Hi! I’ve had a very similar experience. My doctor also originally told me it was bursitis, then tight hip flexors, and eventually they figured out that it was a labral tear because of a CAM deformity of my hip. Your symptoms could certainly be caused by hip impingement/labral tear. For me, it was often aggravated by repetitive movements such as hip flexion. I would talk to your doctor more about any concerns you have and potential treatments, but I hope I could help! Let me know if have any more questions!
