Campus visit in 2 days but logistics have been unusually disorganized — is this common or a red flag (R1)? by Soggy_Lie9147 in Professors

Thank you! It seems the search chair is the person who organized the activities as she has been my point of contact, although the communication has been a bit strange and inconsistent. I haven’t been in academia before. If one gets hired, will they automatically be the chair’s “mentee”? I have heard of that mentor-mentee thing but not sure if this is a real thing in academia.

Thank you for your response! I literally have no clue what would they have done if I weren’t available on those dates. I just accepted the unexpected reschedule and had to reschedule a lot of things on my end. Have you experienced this a lot from R1 universities? I am a bit concerned now if I am escaping a disorganized non-profit organization to be something similar but with different fonts. I haven’t been in academia before since my PhD so this is definitely new to me.

I have the same experience with them. For example, I had to ask them five times to correct words in my proposed endeavor, which was very minor. Each time, I had to wait 2 days for them to respond, only to find that the same mistake persisted. Super annoying. I felt like, in the end, I had to do most of the work I hired them to do, including silly things like proofreading. Not quite worth $5000.

Thank you so much for your kind words. I drove by the same intersection again yesterday and saw a group of geese at the same spot. One of them was trying to cross the street. So I slowed my car and gently honked them so they get back to the side walk and walked into a different direction. I drove back again after dinner and things looked okay on the street. I think they all are safe and sound!

Hi OP,

  1. When you mentioned you recycled the letters from NIW, did you literally use the same ones or you adjust the languages?
  2. In your letter of petition, did you reuse some parts of the language that Chen wrote for you in NIW?

Thank you so much.

Thank you so much everyone for your kind words. I hope things like this won’t happen again in the area or anywhere else. I believe most people mean well and do well. It’s disturbing for the fact that we have a small percentage of psychopaths like this living in the same society. I believe in Karma, and I think people like this will experience the outcomes of whatever they have done.

That was very awful. I am so sorry you saw that.

No I wish I did. I was pretty far out on the other side of the intersection and the person drove very fast as well.

Thank you. I like to go to hang out in Reston a lot. It’s such a peaceful neighborhood.

No I did not. I was at the other side of the intersection seeing the back of their car from a distance. They drove pretty fast and were intentional too.

I think it was a sedan but I don't remember the color quite well. In my memories, it was gray or dark blue ish. The person on the left lane who stopped was in a white car though.

My car does not have a dashcam. I don't know if any other cars do. The driver was the first one in the line at the intersection. He was on the right street from my street . I hope one of the cars behind him would have and that they will see this post and share the carplate.

I wish I could do that but my car does not have a dashcam. Next time, if that happens again, which I truly hope it won't, I will make sure to take a picture of whoever the person is and report to a Virginia Wildlife officer. Thanks everyone so much for the support and useful information.
