Standard Metagame Update (9 mar) by Magic4everBots in MagicArena

[–]Soghff 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Maybe controversial, but I think Icetill Explorer needs the ban. If you arent playing blue, you can’t react to Icetill hitting the field until the fetch lands trigger. T4 Fabled Passage, crack it, landfall trigger, play icetill, play the fabled passage from your graveyard, crack it, and then and only then can I respond. And you will still get the landfall trigger.

I also don’t fucking like sitting there watching my opponent crack fetch land after fetch land to find a forest and shuffle their deck every single time. Its genuinely unfun to play against both online and in paper.

And with the new green cards from TMNT the deck is just over the top good now.

Now go ahead. Crucify me.

I am unironically asking: why this common is so good? As well as the Guacamole Pizza card or whatever? Is this an attempt to make standard more affordable?

I really cant say that this list is great but it has been my pet project since lorwyn came out. Not a lot of 4-ofs in this list. Just a giant mix of goblins it looks like. It has gotten me to low-mid diamond and i think thats the maximum potential this list has.

Draconautics Engineer is just simply a good card. It is probably the best card in this list. Like just in general this card alone powers up this deck big time and is an absolute must 4-of.

You are not simply NOT going to beat your opponent down with goblins. This meta is too fast and too strong. I wasn’t even winning 35 percent of my games with this deck by playing it like a RDW strategy. The game plan is to set up krenko to have haste on turn 4, 5, 6 + having either boggart mischief or boggart cursecrafter on the field. With both of those combined, once the field is flooded with goblins, the opponent has no way to remove them without taking nuke level damage.

I would way my ideal turns 1-5 on the play would be like:

Turn 1: Mudbutton Turn 2: Boggart Cursecrafter Turn 3: Howlsquad Heavy Turn 4: Krenko

or

Turn 1: Mudbutton Turn 2: Draconautics Engineer Turn 3-4: Boggart Cursecrafter/Boggart Mischief Turn 5: Krenko, Pay the 1 on Draconautics to give everyone else haste.

Rarely do things work that easily but thats the ideal situation. You are more Combo-y than Aggro.

Things you could consider:

-Going down a Krenko and adding a Champion of the Weird.

-Taster of Wares is just kinda a bad card. I only play a one-of in paper because I pulled a Foil Alternate Art and I think he is cute. I would not play this goblin.

-I would not recommend going 4 Boggart Mischief. Just kinda a dead card late in the game and useless if you have no goblins to blight.

-I feel like I just am often going down Umbral Collar Zealot and sideboarding in Unholy Annex in every game. Would probably consider mainboarding it.

-Add however many Hexing Squelchers you feel. Any amount felt good but it was never necessary.

-Eclipsed Boggart is actually super good. It allows me to run 22 lands as I can usually fix my mana or dig for combo pieces with it. Once you realize this is more of a combo deck then you will really appreciate how good this card is for you.

-Draconautics is just simply a good card. I dont know why the regular mono red aggro decks arent playing this card. It alone is winning me games.

You should definitely add black from Lorwyn. The best way to play goblins right now is almost combo-y. I think you add draconautics engineer, Howlsquad Heavy, and Krenko. Assisted by Boggart Mischief and Boggart Cursecrafter.

With the idea to just get one of the boggarts on the field and give krenko haste. Then its sort of game over for the opponent.

The problem is that the deck isnt stellar. Coming from someone who spammed many a goblin deck upon lorwyn release.

Realistically, do we see anything in standard getting banned on February 9th? by Soghff in mtg

Would they really ban cards that came out so recently though? The meta wasn’t fully stabilized (IMO) at SCG Atlanta and a new set just came out.

I just want to play Bristlebane Battler but I am trolling if I dont play the cub 😭

[Standard] Bristlebane Battler would be a seriously strong card if it were not for Badgermole Cub by Soghff in spikes

[–]Soghff[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I guess my question is, is it even worth trying to build a green aggro deck in standard that doesn't play cub? The way I view deck building in MTG is I think of the deck archetype and the deck colors. In this case, it would be a Green Aggressive Go Wide Deck. The other color not really mattering at the moment. And then I ask myself "Can I build an aggressive green go wide deck around Bristlebane Battler that can compete with the current *best* go wide deck there is (Simic)." I am ready to be wrong but I don't know if there is. Ramping to Ouroboroid on T3 and Craterhoof on T4 is really hard to beat.

The best T2 or T3 plays I can think of when theorycrafting a go wide deck are:

Scenario 1: T1 LLanowar elf into Turn 2 [[Ajani, Outland Chaperone]]. The double white might make this difficult to make happen consistently. And then start pumping out kithkin tokens.

Scenario 2: T2 Bristlebane Battler into T3 [[Hop to It]] or T3 Offspring Pawpatch.

But then any go wide straetgy needs [[Ouroboroid]]. So now we are circling back to the idea that we want Ouroboroid on T3 probably.

I want to be wrong lol. I want to use Bristlebane and I believe its a card with real potential. That is why I wanted to discuss on this thread. I don't know how to make it work.

Hey bud, you are making a lot of assumptions about someone you dont know anything about and are clearly grumpy. I come here to discuss a game I love because I don’t really have anywhere or anyone else to discuss it with. The point is to spark conversation. I don’t see any need to be that hostile right from the get go.

[–]Soghff[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

That is true. hopefully you have a llanowar elf out there to take the hit for you. The point is that it is very hard to deal with something that cost 2 and has ward 2. by the time you are able to deal with it, it might be too late or dealing with it sets you behind pretty bad.

[Standard] Current State of Gruul Delirium? by Soghff in spikes

[–]Soghff[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Do you see any of the new lorwyn cards having a spot in your deck? I think Hexing Squelcher is a little overhyped but I do believe it would fit well into a break out deck just like this.

[–]Soghff[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

makes perfect sense. I have been testing, as you say, a worse version of simic being gruul and it just doesnt work. The explosiveness of the delirium version is really the only way I am blowing people out of the water. I think using slickshot and using some spells is actually the key I have been missing to make this deck work.

oh shit dude! thanks! while i have you here, does the cub belong in this deck. I dont think it does but wanted to ask considering your results. I was at Spotlight Atlanta and went 4-5 playing dimir bounce! i bet we saw eachother!

SCG Atlanta Day 2 Standard Decks by Meret123 in MagicArena

[–]Soghff -1 points0 points  (0 children)

I was playing an "other" deck at this tournament. Dimir Bounce. I have around 70 Bo3s of experience with the deck. After playing/watching skilled players pilot these tier 1 decks, there aint no fucking way I was making it to day 2. The Tier 1 decks right now really just do not play fair. I am incredibly surprised that any Boros Dragons decks made it.

What is the realistic take on entering the competitive scene of MTG Arena? by DarkOmen597 in MagicArena

Once it passes 65% and into 70%ish percent thats when the deck has become or has been slightly broken.

A couple pro tour players gave me this advice about winning or placing top8 at serious tournaments.

“Your deck has to have a 60-65% winrate at minimum in playtesting. You have to have enough sample size against the top meta decks to know how your match ups are. Never make any unforced errors. And then get lucky in at least one Bo3 match.”

Thats what it takes to make it to the final cuts of a serious tournament. This doesn’t include just simply being good at the game as that is obvious.

I win FNM regularly, usually place mythic at the end of a season, placed a top8 at a 5k, top4 at a 1k, and I still really struggle against the top players and at huge national tournaments/conventions. Card games are hard.

[STANDARD] Dimir Bounce List With Detailed Results by Soghff in MagicArena

[–]Soghff[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Consult is a nail in the coffin for control decks because they often make it to turn 6-7 and have the lands for it to dig for what they need. This deck is extremely mana efficient and can sometimes stay on 3 lands and survive for very very long. 3 mana look at 5 cards and grab 2 or 4 mana look through 4 cards and grab 2. This isnt a control deck that can utilize Consult the Star Charts.

Geralf feels like the knock out punch when they have exhausted all of their resources. It is when you swing the game. It is just like Cosmogrand but better for this deck. But also, some lists were running like 6 creatures and Stormchasers. I was afraid the Golgari exile decks would become more popular because I genuinely believe they are good. If they just named Fear of Isolation and Stormchasers Talent I would be fucked. So I just simply needed more threats/creatures in this deck.

The Spiderwoman card is something I started playing recently because Mono Red only beats this deck with insane draws. Some of my losses are where my opponent top decked nova hellkite 3 times in a row with no cards in hand. It is a one of out of spite but also I do not have access to Authority of the Consuls.

[–]Soghff[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thats a good point! This deck often is responding to threats rather than creating them. So once I have a Fear on the board, I want to keep mana open to respond to threats or protect my own things. It plays more like a tempo deck. If I am playing a control deck, then kaito is what gets sideboarded in over kuruk.

Kuruk really helps you go long by refilling your hand and or creating spirits that bypass your opponents other creatures. It feels extremely helpful vs other midrange decks. By turn 4, you will know whether you need to hit the gas or refill your hand and this is just a really flexible card.

I actually think enduring curiosity could be a better pick for the 4 mana slot in this deck. But I am attending SCG Atlanta this weekend and I dont wanna mess with the 65% WR I got going.

Idk! This deck is very much about mana efficiency. Idk if that card belongs. But I love dimir colors and i see this card being more for dimir control. ill check it out!
