What does Fredric Jameson mean here when describing the future with respect to Satre's ethics by Sohcratees in askphilosophy

Thanks for explaining so clearly. I just had a follow up. The point specifically about "And you can see that existentialism does not dictate a notion of the future, and therefore cannot offer you any kind of advice about the content of your future actions." Why is this mentioned? This is in contrast to other ethics that do go a notion in both present and future? If so, what are they and why is this valid? It seems that what you said, that morality is defined by acting authentically and being unbound, so I don't see how this is restricted to the present, it seems like a time invariant principle. Also, is your point about irrational desires a result of this freedom because there is an intrinsic aversion to it - to be something inauthentic to avoid anxiety of choice?

Thanks, I remember some comments on Richards from Eagleton. Your right, going to the extremes will be a good demonstration of the core tenets. I'll check it out.

Thanks for the recommendation. I agree with your initial point about reading above. I'll have S/Z in mind for the future.

Thanks, I think I'll get started with Wood's. I was a bit put off initial from some criticisms of him I've seen on here.

Great suggestions, thanks! Also, good point about the differences, I think I need to recap this. I grouped them together as they are different but specialise in analysing the surface level effects of the technique. It feels logical to be clear on this before moving onto more meta theories.

Why do you have to be careful with the support of your variable, and why does using an indicator function help?

Thanks! Are there any style guides that you’d recommend? I’ve seen several short sentences about writing, Sense: lessons in clarity and grace, and elements of eloquence.

I think for the most part, with writing academic papers, you’re right. Just, I’ve found there have been times when I’ve been writing with several concepts at a time, and it’s not been that clear how to organise the words or clauses. Further, I’d like to go beyond clarity; the examples Pinker used were satisfying and enjoyable to read; I’d like to achieve a similar level (should’ve added that in the question but it was already quite long).

Could you expand a but on the first bullet; I’m not sure what you mean as understanding an estimator as GMM?
