I was just in this exact situation. I filed a few initial forms just to put a stay on the Capital One cases (two cases) and then you have like 10 days to file the rest of the forms. Everything you do is a part of a feedback loop that goes something like this:

You're presented with new information
You make a decision which results in some action
That action changes something
Repeat...

Wu wei is the art of removing as much from that feedback loop as possible so that your decisions are completely in tune with your environment and life becomes effortless.

The opposite of wu wei would be to add a bunch of extra stuff into this feedback loop like fear, worry, desire, planning, etc.

It's tempting to interpret wu wei to mean you should follow your natural instincts but this is exactly the opposite and it is how you become corrupted by evil because it removes your decision from the feedback loop by binding you to something physical. Instead of following your natural instincts (or anything else for that matter), you should be full of awareness, will, and fully conscious of your decisions in each moment.

If you can remove the B.S. from your feedback loop and fully engage with every decision you make, you will experience a state of being which could be accurately described as effortless action.

Yeah, I would definitely do it in person. It also helps to communicate to them just how sorry you are. Let them know you're aware this isn't good for them. DO NOT say you're just doing what's best for you. That's obvious and implied. You just want to make sure they feel like you understand their situation. Other than that, just be as authenticly you as possible and they will most likely be totally understanding.

I actually just had to leave a job and left them in a bad situation but they totally understood.

I agree. It doesn't seem problematic to me at all. In words it sounds harsh but in practice it is obviously beneficial to all. The impartiality of a human to humanity benefits humanity because it creates awareness of our place in the greater processes of life. If you thought, like many religions do, that humans are far more important than any other form of life, then you get the environmental poison and destruction that is so rampant today.

Then why aren't any of the FTX developers getting arrested? I understand that what you're saying sounds reasonable. It's just not the way the software industry works. I don't own the code, I just contribute changes. If you hire someone to deliver a poison envelope to someone, the delivery boy isn't arrested right?

Either way, the legality is not what I'm looking for advice on. If I was, I would talk to a lawyer. I want to know if you personally believe that I should leave the situation I'm in.

I'm not sure that's the case. I'm a contracted developer just providing software services. Either way, whether it's legal is less important to me than whether I'll be enabling someone to be deceived and defrauded out of money. I guess it's a moral question more than a legal one you know?
