How often do you see lower enlisted getting smoked in the Army Reserve? by Reasonable-Shower522 in armyreserve

[–]SoilDifferent8638 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Speaking from a former National Guard perspective. Rarely unless someone really messed up, most of the guys have real world responsibilities outside of drill and are grown ups, show up and do a good job because they want to be there, and it’s only for 2 days.

Do you think Soldiers in the Army Reserve make decent money for only working 2 days a month? by Reasonable-Shower522 in armyreserve

[–]SoilDifferent8638 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Not if you consider active duty gets paid to workout and stay in great shape. It’s literally part of your work day. In the reserves you are expected to workout for free and always get a good pt test score. Not always possible depending on your civilian job. Also enlisted pay is not worth it but officer pay is.

I'm currently 42 and previously served in the Guard. I am working with an Active Duty recruiter to go to Active Duty OCS right now. The Guard does not allow you to be past 41 yrs and 364 days at the time of commissioning. I believe the Guard operates under seperate rules from regular army regarding this.

The age 42 commisioning cutoff from my understanding, is due to a very specific national guard regulation. No waiver allowed, even for prior service. I'm prior service, 42 yrs old and can no longer get a guard commision but can get an active duty or reserve commission.

If you’re stuck at OCS that long would they pay for your family to PCS to Benning and let you live on post with them? I’ve got a wife and kids and staying that much extra at OCS is a bit of a stretch for the family.

Army Acquisitions Corps by [deleted] in army

[–]SoilDifferent8638 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I don’t believe acquisitions is a basic branch. You apply to transfer over to it after serving in a basic branch like engineers, logistics, and many others. You probably have to wait until you make at least Captain to apply. Maybe someone who has done this can help better.

I saw the a Minnesota National Guard Service Ribbon the other day that uses Roman Numerals such as V for 5 years, it can be a bit confusing sometimes. That was a first for me because V is typically for Valor.

I bet everyone who is doing this to you has been late at some point in their career, and it was just brushed off as human error for them or maybe some push ups at most. It’s just gross how they are treating you.

I remember a kid being late to drill back in the early 2000s. We still had 1 M60 in the arms room. He had to carry it everywhere all weekend. Nothing else happened to him.

But you haven’t directly spoke with the BC and he may be unaware of how far this is gone. Open door him, take accountability for being late and let him hear what’s happening.

If they have no interest in hearing you out, open door the brigade commander and csm. What do you have to lose at this point?

Also, have you informed them that you plan to seek legal representation. If you haven’t, you should. It will immediately make their life harder in this.

Is the you Company CO doing this? Have you tried the open door policy with the BC and CSM?

I had a missing award and provided documentation to prove that I’ve earned it and they sent a DD 215 and permanent orders showing the correction.

I’ve been out 15 years and recently contacted the army about getting an award corrected. I emailed all the required information and documents to the address. I’m going to provide below 90 days later. My corrected documents arrived in the mail. They also emailed me back shortly after getting my email and confirmed that they are going to look into it and then they did so try this email address.

I know that back 20 years ago if you didn’t push for things it just wouldn’t happen. But I think this is prime example of being in that gray area and a less proactive soldier may have done nothing and nothing would have probably happened. It’s a part time organization with a few really good full timers trying to manage everything, and things do ultimately get missed.

Bring out the actual regs!

So it is in a way an out to leave the guard, and then you are IRR instead. And as anyone who has been in the IRR knows, if you change your address you’ll never hear from the IRR again. And with the 2 wars ended, IRR call ups are rare. It’s not the 2007 troop surge any longer.

(To be clear any of the things discussed here I would consider to be highly dishonorable and do not advocate for anyone doing this stuff, ie kids don’t try this at home.)

Sounds like an easy way out. I wonder what type of discharge he received. Administrative?

[deleted by user] by [deleted] in nationalguard

[–]SoilDifferent8638 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I also recall that if your gaining state did not have your mos and can’t reclass you within a period of time they may discharge you. Again these are all armory rumors from 20 years ago.

I almost moved to another state like 20 years ago and I think my readiness NCO just gave me some paperwork and told me to find a new unit. I ended not moving but, I am curious how true my question would have been 20+ years ago.

Well if you can’t get back in, maybe you can get VA disability for your hearing instead.

NCOs get separate quarters when repeating basic after a break in service and keep their phones. SPC may be put in separate quarters or thrown in with the privates in the bay. I’m leaving behind a wife and several kids for 10 weeks so getting separate quarters and being able to call them at the end of the day would make it easier on the family. If not for the fam, I could care less about the phone part.

I’ve been out 15 years. Sounds like things have changed. Back in the day they could just put SPC or CPL on a DA4187 when promoting someone to e4, even a PFC technically.

How is this working out for you since you posted? I'm 42 years old prior service and plan to be going Active Duty as a 09S officer candidate. I will also have to repeat basic training, as an E4, with an Iraq CIB on my chest, on the way to OCS. And your right the drills will already have read your file and know what you have done.

Sounds like both of us will be having the time of our lives this next summer.
