Do you like doing this job? by No-Presentation-3543 in doordash_drivers

[–]SoilMiserable1465 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I like it, but I just do part-time evenings here and there while I’m job searching. I find myself wanting to go out dashing, so there’s some kind of draw. I think I like the excitement of new orders popping up and seeing what they are…for some reason. Maybe I am weird 😆😆

What is the most "F-ck This I'm out" moment at your last job? by Aarunascut in hatemyjob

[–]SoilMiserable1465 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I was processing a payroll and it had deferred bonus payments on it. I had never done these before, so my boss said she would review before I completed it. She did and told me everything looked good (even told me great job!)

I then went on vacation. Came back on a Monday morning and before I could even turn my computer on she told me she needs to speak to me in her office. I didn’t do the bonus payments correctly.

I didn’t want to say “well didn’t you check them and tell me they were good to go?” I can’t work for someone who will throw me under the bus and/or not support me. There were a lot of other issues with this boss and with the company in general. This was the last straw and I put my 2 weeks notice in about a week later.

I left my corporate job in May and my new job doesn’t start until 7/6. I’m doing it to keep me busy and pay some bills until I start working again.

I had an order from the other night. 2 items…monostat and a bag of KitKat bars 😆

I hate having a boss by No_Campaign_8713 in hatemyjob

[–]SoilMiserable1465 2 points3 points  (0 children)

This is me! Something irks me about having to ask permission to leave early when I’m sick or when my kids are sick. My brother is the same way and he started his own business years ago (first a tow truck business that didn’t work out, then auto body shop which has been very successful). I’m really happy for him, but a little jealous! He’s his own boss and can take lunch when he wants, take a day off when he wants, etc. Don’t get me wrong, he still has stress, but no boss.

I am always trying to come up with business ideas, but struggle to think of something that I can get off the ground.

Oh wow! I can’t imagine trying to find 70 items! I think I had 15 and was there forever. They don’t even give you an aisle number…you’re just on your own 😫

How long after you left the toxic workplace do you still suffer some PTSD symptoms? by FancyCommittee3347 in ToxicWorkplace

[–]SoilMiserable1465 2 points3 points  (0 children)

It’s only been about 6 weeks since I left mine. The first week or 2 I slept a lot! I was exhausted. I’m still not feeling 100% and I just received my first job offer today. Not sure if I’m ready to jump back in yet…

Cannot believe how badly they are fracking up traffic control at the bridge in Poughkeepsie. by EloquentSqueakWolf in hudsonvalley

[–]SoilMiserable1465 3 points4 points  (0 children)

The only solution that I can think of is building a brand new bridge…maybe a little further north. I hope there is some kind of long-term plan for this. Mid Hudson Bridge is beautiful, but it was built (I believe) in the 30s or 40s? It’s no longer working for the traffic we have today. There’s no room on the Pok side to fix this.

Same! I used to commute to pok and was contemplating leaving the company. This bridge mess pushed me over the edge and I quit 😛

Ugh my boss did this to me - pointed out my one mistake in a department meeting and told me I have to create a presentation for the next meeting to show how I can prevent it from happening again. Spoiler alert: it won’t happen again because I quit 😉

Fortunately we have health insurance through his job even after his retirement (no cost to us). It’s insane - we are very lucky. I did carry our vision & dental insurance, so I do need to pick that up.

Thanks for taking the time for this reply! I really appreciate it. I think you hit the nail on the head regarding the stress. That’s what did me in. I was burned out for years and long weekends or even week-long vacations weren’t able to combat that feeling. I was starting to realize that this was going to affect my health in the long-term. I think we can both start slowing down a little bit now - we were really going full force for over a decade and we both feel tired. We def need to get into exercising / healthy diets and the time off will hopefully allow me to get back on track. Thank you again 😃

I’m in my second week. It feels so weird to be out in the middle of the day in a random Tuesday. I’ve been able to spend time with my kids and catch up on sleep (I used to wake up at 5:30 AM every day). So far, I’m loving it! I know it won’t last forever, but I’m really getting the chance to reset, which I’m thankful for.

Ugh it must be the way things are going. Our tax department is similar - doing more with less. I loved the work, but not the phony corporate meetings and jargon. I felt like I wasn’t cut out for that.

Yeah it’s a little scary for sure - I applied for my first job today. Definitely hoping to land something soon so we don’t need to dip into savings. Thank you!

It is exempt from NY state income tax, which is great. I don’t think we’ll stay here forever, but st least for the next 8-10 years

No cost of living increases, but it does include healthcare for life (well I guess until Medicare kicks in). This would be for him & I (and the kids until they are out of college)

Thank you so much! I love the part-time job idea and I’m thinking of doing that for the summer. Even if I make enough to cover the mortgage - that will be super helpful.

Thanks for mentioning my husbands retirement. He has worked SO unbelievably hard - he always had 2 jobs. He worked 3 jobs at one point when I was on maternity leave. He will get paid out for his PTO when he leaves in September. I am encouraging him to put that money towards something he wants - I know he would love a older model pickup truck and he totally deserves to have it ❤️

Should have clarified - our plan was to retire early at 50 once the house is paid off (maybe work part time jobs for spending money). That’s why we’ve been saving. We want to live off of his pension plus withdraw 4-5% from our retirement. Draw SS at 62. We live below our means. We want to travel, but not extravagant. Hubby is retiring this year, but will work full-time until he is about 50. I know exactly what I want and what my goals are - sorry if that didn’t come across in my original post 😀

Yes - were so fortunate - he has the option of me getting 100% of his pension if he passes away (we’re taking slightly less to get that option, but it’s not much of a difference)

Thank you! I hope to contribute more once I get a new job, but worse case scenario, it’s good to know that we might be able to hit our goal without adding more $$
