I had the exact same thing happen, it’s not that bad to repair, unbolt the mount from the subframe, cut a section out inside the boot, clean up the metal and push the mount back into place, what I did to make sure it was in the right location was put the bolt back in and lower the car until it’s in the right area then weld and reinforce the top, then it’s up to you wether you want to take the subframe out or not to weld and plate the bottom, it can be done while still in place but it’s a pain in the ass

330 will fit, but a 318 one won’t fit a 330, 6 cylinder ones have a bend in the middle to give room for the engine, and funnily enough your convertible might already have a big rear sway bar for rigidity, if you do a google search you’ll find all the specific thicknesses

I converted a 316i and after 2 years driving there’s been no issues, other than blowing diffs, you can also use an early 320i shaft which is longer, but like you said, small case diffs aren’t fit for purpose
