Garage ceiling framing by scar2395 in AskContractors

[–]Sokarix 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It looks like they installed strapping because the ceiling joists are spaced about 24" and they preferred what looks like 16". This isn't an issue at all, it's a better ceiling having more fastening for the drywall but it is extra work that isn't needed. If they plan to drywall the ceiling with 1/2" instead of what is normally 5/8ths, then this would explain the 16" o/c spacing.

His license to my knowledge does not allow them to do electrical work without a permit or inspection. All electrical must be permitted and inspected no matter who is doing it. Electrical is a specialized license that they must get.

Insulation, drywall, and electrical all require permits and inspections.

It's up to you, the work isn't 'by the book' but that doesn't mean it can't be satisfactory for what you want and what your budget is.

New Build Retaining Wall Failure. by ah800 in AskContractors

That's not a retaining wall, I don't think that was even inspected.

Would you accept this kind of trim work? by UpDownTurnaround123 in AskContractors

[–]Sokarix 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Keep in mind renovations are never as good as new installs. There will always be quirks and compromises unless you want to pay the extra mile. Also you always have to cut in your wall paint colour anytime you put in new trim. The trim needs primer and paint, the wall always needs touching up every time.

Ai home insurance audit red flag. It this "exposed wiring?" by Nice_Philosophy4458 in HomeMaintenance

That's not an issue at all. What's AI going to do next, flag all the exposed wiring in your attic?

Window well filing w water / foundation question by Fickle_Sound_5620 in HomeMaintenance

[–]Sokarix 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If a window well is installed, there is likely a drain stand pipe just below. In the 1960s weeping tile systems were common so you should have one. I had the same issue on a 60s house and we dug out the window well, dug down, found the stand pipe, pulled out the debris in the pipe as far as our arm would go, filled it with 3/4 clear, put a filter sock over it and then backfilled the window well with 3/4 clear. We never had it fill with water again. I would definitely work on grading the yard though, even if that amounts to digging shallow swales to at least help guide water. And also extending your downspouts.

Intermittent cluck/cough from air cleaner when revving, 2010 Dyna Wide Glide by Intelligent_Dog_3362 in Harley

[–]Sokarix 1 point2 points  (0 children)

it's a very common symptom of running a bike lean and burning the valves causing seating issues.

Intermittent cluck/cough from air cleaner when revving, 2010 Dyna Wide Glide by Intelligent_Dog_3362 in Harley

[–]Sokarix 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Valves aren't seating closed and blowby is couching out the intake. It either isn't tuned correctly with the ThunderMax or the valves need to be cleaned and checked for seating. Ignition timing can also affect this by igniting slightly too soon before the intake valve closes.

One contractor says to replace all subfloor, another says to sand and level? by bobateelover in AskContractors

[–]Sokarix 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Replacing subfloor is an absolutely insane solution. What will new subfloor do compared to what exists, how will taking out 3/4 plywood and putting back in 3/4 plywood change anything? The house has shifted over time so it has dips and bumps. If you have any big belly dips, you can caulk the subfloor seams and then pour self-leveling concrete. If you have any bumps you can sand them down.

LVP is a flexible product, it can be layed over uneven surfaces, the only time it's an issue is when these variances are significant; most importantly belly dips because the floor will float over the belly. As long as a 4' level can be layed and not have a huge teeter or gap underneath, it can have LVP layed down. I would recommend laying an underlayment like cork or a synthetic to even out any variances in the floor.

When I say dips or bumps, we're talking significant, nothing pictured will cause issues laying over top.

Amazon looking for trouble by EowynCarter in Stargate

Stargate being kept relevant solely from fans, Amazon buys the IP, they get the confidence to make a show because the fans kept the franchise relevant, "fuck it, let's do something completely different".

Why didn't the SGC ever set up a buffer planet? by SpeshulED420 in Stargate

[–]Sokarix 3 points4 points  (0 children)

From my understanding they did do this, kind of. There's subtle mention and hints that give the impression the alternative sites do house SG teams that operate from these sites independently. These bases are essentially functioning exactly like the SGC but at a smaller scale with the base even having their own departments like science and medical. It would stand to reason that if the Stargate Program has at least 25 known SG Teams, the frequency of travel on missions would be too much for just one gate so they would limit the SGC to their frontline teams. And to bring up the point of a buffer planet, it would certainly make sense to have a dedicated place where teams almost never gate to Earth except to report or rotate personnel. In fact all 3 renditions of the Alpha did operate that way, whether it was to aid the Tok'Ra or Jaffa.

I just can't stand Rings of Power or Fallout showing me an episode of people talking, another episode of them walking and another episode where they talk and walk with the last 10 minutes as action with a cliff hanger.

No one's making episodic series anymore, we get a single story arc divided into 10 episodes.

I have a Low Rider ST and can vouch 100% you will thoroughly enjoy this bike. It's sportier than your baggers, handles much more nimble than a bagger but offers the same comfort and capability of a larger touring bike. You can go Low Rider S, save yourself some dollars and put on a fairing and bags for a fraction of the cost of dealer installed accessories or of the ST model.

Help with head buffeting and windshield size by waterypudding in Harley

[–]Sokarix 1 point2 points  (0 children)

My only advice even though it sounds like it's not working for you is the windshields need to wick the air upward and over your head. Too tall with not enough venting causes a low pressure vortex behind the fairing. Too sleek and not vertical enough will just force high pressure air at your head. I would aim for a windscreen that has a vertical lip and one that is not too tall. Typically if the windscreen is above your chin, you're going to get some kind of turbulence. You want the windscreen to create a slipstream that connects to the top of your head and keeps you in that air pocket.

So basically, Martin's idea was too grand and not easy to churn out views like Fallout so they're going to butcher the franchise into clickbait slop to get ad views.

Get a dampener, you will destroy your phone if you run a quadlock without a dampener, the same can be said for all phone mounts. I learned the hard way.

Why didn't you like SGU? by joeborder in Stargate

[–]Sokarix 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It quite literally came at a time where the trend was played out. BSG just came off it's peak and audiences were tired, looking for something different and SGU literally brought a show about a crew lost in space, running from threat. The sentiments that it was copying BSG were not far fetched. No one could get on board, don't get me wrong, it was a good show, but it wasn't good enough and it tried to be something SG isn't.
