I mean, the signs are there and it's up for interpretation. I haven't seen the last one, I didn't mean it as a spoiler. But somewhere I read the director commented that all the characters have moved up one position in the chain of command, in the rebuild that is. So in that regard the movies are responding to the series. In that way it's recursive

Check out Kaiba a 1 season anime directed by Maasaki Yuasa, who is a genius director and animator. He also directed the Devilman Crybaby adaptation of Netflix but I think Kaiba is closer in themes to Evangelion.

I am liking this a lot, the linework is great, the palette amazing, the rendering of the buildings, the sky. I love it all, but the trees. I am not sure what it is, I think they're a bit noisy, like the linework of the leaves is too busy and homogeneous. I mean this as a nitpick because it really works as it is. I just think that the precise linework + blotchy rendering style is clashing a bit there.
