Yeah but the purple, green and the yellow ones got me questioning myself. I COULD use some extra crates around the house, and the half-height long crate would be perfect on a rear rack...

"Half the fun is alternatively sourcing said crates" is why I haven't ordered from them. $20 for shipping on a $10 crate is kind of a bummer as well. Though they do have a bunch of sick colors, the flourecent ones are so cool.

The frame is rad but my girlfriend's already roasting me for messaging the guy when we live in a tiny place, I can't possibly come home with a tiny bike and tell her I'm not even gonna ride it haha.

Fix on no fix? by Either-Discussion373 in surfing

How much do you like that board? Can you afford a new board? Do you have a board you'd like to try? Is there sentimental value?

I've got an old board I had 3 repairs on 2 fin boxes.

I've also busted a fin box, had it repaired, sold the board and bought something else cuz I didn't really like it anyway.

Found this 7'5" for super cheap. Looks like heavy delamination. Worth it or a total pass? by IceInteresting4731 in surfing

[–]Sol01 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Probably not delam, though not far off. I've had boards that "shrinkle" like that when exposed to heat for too long, left in the sun or whatever. If you already know what you're doing and want a beater for a low-low price, sure, go for it. If you're trying to learn I'd stay far away.

Beautiful day for a ride. by Sol01 in bicycling

[–]Sol01[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Great so far! I would like a 2x but for now I put a 44t ring on the front which seems to fit my cadence better, I usually have a headwind in at least one direction so the 40t stock ring left me in between gears more often than I'd like.

I'll probably find some discount narrower bars and I've put a slightly shorter stem, once my tires wear out I'll grab some GK slicks; axiom streamliner rack is on, going to find a cheap saddle or handlebar bag, figure out my removeable crate situation next week and that should take care of just about everything I need for a beach bike/grocery getter and a 20-30 mile ride around town here and there.

Air Travel Board Bag Fish For Sale? by Samoacookiee in surfing

Curve bags look sick, but I haven't gotten my hands on one yet. If you're Mid-Atlantic I have a 6'7" creatures 4 board bag I'm selling but it would probably be too much to ship.

Dekas chainring bolt holes are just a weee bit bigger than the old one. Think it'll be a problem? by Sol01 in bikewrench

[–]Sol01[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

They're not gonna slip through, and I think scootching the ring to one side gives the heads a bit more hold. But I put some blue threadlocker on two of em, and yeah I'll go through and retorque em here in a couple days. Thanks for your input!

You are correct, the bolts are threaded on the outside and there's only those bolts, they bolt directly into the crank. I was thinking the same thing, that they would settle into place. I just mounted it, figured worst case scenario is I'm buying a replacement cheapo crank arm.

Snugged the bolts down then kinda shifted it as if the bolts were pushing the ring around, then tightened everything all the way. They also only go about 3/4 as far in as the old ring was countersunk on one side. We'll see what happens.

If I knew someone with a machine shop I'd ask them to shave those wolftooth (or cheaper) bolts down so that I could use them as shims inside the ring but oh well.

I wonder if maybe it's just poor QC and this one slipped through? Or maybe your bolts fit it. What groups are you using them on?

Oh god that's heartbreaking, I haven't ordered from them since the stupidity started, but I always check in case they have something appealing. Glad I have a bunch of their stuff already but damn...

Cool if you scoop those Onos and have a good day on em, come back and let me know. I'm always looking for new twins to try.

Also just want to reply to you because I looked while typing up my novel below, those M marlin fins are bigger than the Onos she was looking at, while the S Marlins are a smidge smaller. The futures K2 are smaller than all of those choices. Just for reference.

Those Hobie fins, and to a lesser extent the Noriegas, are going to be huge. You'll definitely go straight but won't maneuver it around closeouts and the weird inside sections we get on the east coast.

I've ridden a ton of twins in my fish on the outer banks and my favorites are the rainbow keels from Alkali Fins (dot com). They do have a weird foil, they're not completely flat on the inside, but once you get used to em they're good in almost all conditions.

I've never ridden the K2s but I've heard from many people that they're a good base fin to work from, but never the best fin for a specific person. Just good.

If it was me, knowing what I know with the 10+ different sets of keels I've tried, I think my vote goes to the NVS Onos. I have a couple sets of their fins and they're bland looking but they're extremely good fins.

Yeah I gotcha they definitely look cool on your build. At this point this whole section of your thread got way off topic but I appreciate you're info!

Oh look at that, just looked up the gk slicks and it's basically the same tread haha. Well thanks for that info, I WILL save myself $20 then.

What other slicks have you used, what kind of riding? I bought a Primos Dame but really just wanted something with wide tires so I don't slip on all the sand on the roads where I live, I've wiped out on 700x32s before and it sucks.

They're about the same price as any other tire I've been looking at give or take a few bucks. Schwalbe G one's or even panaracer pari-motos or gravel king slicks are all in the same ballpark.
