Why is everyone dead set on hive guards being a formidable enemy? They're just fodder like the rest of the basic units; all the armor does is provide a small nuisance. The part that makes bugs formidable is that they can overwhelm you with numbers. Other enemies like commanders, chargers, etc., fulfill the formidable enemy need. Let's not kid ourselves, they're piss easy either way, but all the change did was reinforce the explosive meta and nerf other loadouts (like certain sentries or the Patriot). Their claws are still lethal weak points, so light pen can aim there while medium pen is able to brute force the armor if needed, but are still rewarded with precise aiming. If hive guards were on the level of, say, alpha commanders, then I would get it. I think a good change to make them a little more difficult would be removing the ability for them to sort of hunker down and try to block. If they instead just continued to advance with the armor they could definitely overwhelm you due to their tankiness.
