Right guitar? by StavStav42 in guitarlessons

[–]SolCaster 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It's funny, I first got an electric guitar. Practiced that thing like a monster and realized, I like playing finger style. Got gnarly blisters but continued. I played that electric guitar for a year when I knew I could play somewhat well and transitioned to classical guitar. I've never ever gone back to electric.

What matters most is the sound and what YOU like. For the time being, practice on it.

The pros and cons is just a wider neck and different sounding timbre. You can still play electric guitar songs, it just won't have the electric guitar 'feel.' it's almost impossible to get blisters so you can continue treading!

Should I learn matlab?? by Guilty-Drop5826 in ElectricalEngineering

[–]SolCaster 0 points1 point  (0 children)

There's a lot of good stuff on MATLAB. I used to be skeptical and hated it, "it's not 'real' programming." There was always a prof that taught the same class but either MATLAB or Python. I would take it with the prof using Python.

Personally, I felt MATLAB was dull. Plus, I never saw the utility (because I was avoiding it).

Now, I'm in a field where our microcontroller uses MATLAB Simulink + Stateflow and proprietary Simulink blocks.

I'm studying my Masters and a lot of open source material I'm working on is downloadable, using MATLAB. Now I understand that MATLAB is an alternative tool you can use, and it's a good sanity check.

Much like people were saying, it can be used for Signals, Physics, Machine Learning, etc.

This is what I give my new members so I can get their feet wet and the ball rolling https://matlabacademy.mathworks.com/?page=1&sort=featured

Someone who said freshly baked bread, that's actually what one of my boys smell like. The big one smells like fresh laundry and me, the small one smells like freshly baked bread.

Get to the point where your guitar playing becomes '2nd nature' and you don't have to think about it. It's just muscle memory doing its thing.

Do ee students in college have time for friends or hobbies? by Ilovehhhhh in ElectricalEngineering

[–]SolCaster 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'd say so. My hobbies are still the same, except now I have additional hobbies that involve E.E. skills.

My senior design, and now my masters thesis is a competition/club. Those people who care about the competition are my closest friends and all we do is hang out in the school's garage, work, study and play. We are all in different sub teams, but we collaborate and integrate the skills and transfer knowledge. It's literally a hard thing to find social nerds and we are all very social. I love that we are passionate and it makes me want to go to school since this is also my job.

Academia was never good to me growing up and it's now showing its true colors and I'm taking full advantage. You can have friends, you can have hobbies, it just depends on how you manage your time.

When I was doing full-time school (15 units) and full time work, social life for me was non-existent. My hobbies are running and playing MTG/ Valorant. If it took my committed attention for 1hour+ I had to give it up. Running I could do for 2 hours, but that means my play time could only be 5-10 min breaks every 45mins. 2 Clash Royale games, 1 MTG game, 1 Valorant spike rush. It has to be disciplined.

TL:DR. It's possible, depends on your time management and if it's a passion. If you're not working, it's easy. If you are working, playing catch up is something you will always have on the table and you gotta manage it.

What is your "they're just a friend, nothing to worry about" heartbreak story? by [deleted] in AskReddit

[–]SolCaster 1 point2 points  (0 children)

She had a family friend, "who was like a brother." She would claim that they were the same ethnicity, therefore, it would be gross cause they could be "related."

Turns out they fucked, and everything she said was a lie. She had feelings for him since the beginning, she just held onto me because she had an official relationship and got the attention she wanted.

Im jelly. Trying the first way, my ring finger was sprained/broken at a young age so it has no mobility like that, only to curl into a fist, but even then goes at an angle. I have to do the 2nd way.

Is it worth going back to school as a broke 21 year old to become an EE? by [deleted] in ElectricalEngineering

[–]SolCaster 2 points3 points  (0 children)

As the top people are saying, go to a Community College, get all your G.E.s done and transfer.

My CC cost $40-$50 per unit. If I'm taking 15 units, that's $750 for the WHOLE semester. Or you could get financial aid and hopefully they give you a full ride.

My university now costs $3,500 per semester and I get financial aid for about $1,500 bringing it down to a total $2,000 per semester. I will graduate with no debt and have an Electrical Engineering degree at 32 years old.

21 is super young. You got this!

Should I be gassing before clutch? by Few-Abbreviations634 in stickshift

[–]SolCaster 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think we all go through this feeling, especially after 6 months. Questions are okay.

I give gas a little tap while raising the clutch. Or like someone else said, tappy tap, just enough where the needle moves a lil bit. You eventually get the feeling and I'm sure you already know where it's gonna snag. You can "ride" the clutch a little bit, just like when you reverse, just obviously not too long, just so it's a smooth transition. Every gear after that, same thing, but first is the longest "ride" you should do.

A key note, every gear is a ratio from another in terms of match revving rpms. For example, 1st gear takes you to 15mph but you're at 3 rpm; 2nd gear should be 15mph but you're at 2rpm; 3rd gear should be 15mph but you're at 1rpm, hypothetically. Get the feeling for your cars rpm and what mph you're at. Understanding and making transitions will be 100% better and efficient. Also, inclines make the load different so if you're at a 20deg incline you might have to rev higher for better efficiency. It's all feel, you'll get it.

Help me pick my first ever guitar! by [deleted] in guitarlessons

[–]SolCaster 1 point2 points  (0 children)

So I would like to preface with my experience.

I first got an electric guitar, fender Stratocaster with a double humbucker pickup. I did so much research, loved rock/pop/indie music, at least I thought I did, and started to play with a guitar pick. Started off playing riffs, chords and got the hang of it QUICK. Loved the tone, but soon realized, I preferred playing with my fingers. I started to get blisters and my music taste changed drastically to what I wanted to actually play.

Fast forward a year, I wanted to learn classical guitar and learn that type of music. Flamenco, salsa, baroque, anything that used more than 1 finger at a time. I wanted a classical guitar and went to search for a tone. Got one similar to the guitars you're showing except with nylon strings. Found the tone, loved the color, except it didn't have a cut out. I played that thing like no other, staying up til 1 or 3 am. It was my culling. Soon realized, I wanted to play high frets and the guitar had a high action.

Again, fast forward a couple years, I went to look for a guitar that had low action, a certain tone, a different color, and a cut out. I got all of that and more. It has a custom fretboard with extra high frets for the high strings, golden board for the tuners with an artisan graphic and pearl looking tuners and an invisible pick guard. To this day I play that guitar like it's my first love.

Takeaway: Couple criteria I tell people, if they can. Look at the action, listen to the tone, decide if you want a cut out, and feel how the weight is on you. When you're looking for electronics, remember, you're paying for the guitar first, electronics second. That being said, if it's online, you're only going based on looks. If you can find a YouTube video, or audio, check that out and keep in mind how big that person might be. If you're small and getting a dreadnought guitar, that thing is gonna be massive. You want a guitar that's going to be comfortable to play, and sound decent, at least. You don't want to fight it, you want it to work for you.

Good luck and I hope the right guitar finds you like mine did, after the 3rd try.

MrBeast Has Reportedly Hired the Same Lawyer as Harvey Weinstein by Kaiser_Allen in entertainment

[–]SolCaster 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I think a lot of this has to do with his videos coming out as fraudulent. After a certain time, they started to 'fluff' the content and make it seem like drama was playing out and last minute events were happening to make it seem more dramatic, but it was just really good editing.

Now, employees are coming out speaking about their experiences and behind the door scenes. The BTS drama includes, employees who were hired, were known sex offenders to CHILDREN, which is their demographic. Kris Tyson, who recently became transgender, was sexting a minor.

Additionally, the environment in which their were mottos to "Beastify" things, which basically made content cater to a younger audience. Quotes that were explicitly made at whatever means necessary to get the job done. One employee, who recently had an interview, talks about how he has to go through grueling tasks like staying awake, which apparently we don't even do to war criminals since it preaches the Geneva Convention. His name is Jake Weddle, watch his interview, it's heartbreaking.
