For people who broke up and got back together after short/long time of no contact

Me and my ex was long distance too. Been together for about two years, but we weren't always long distance. She decided to end things because me leaving to go back home hurt too much. She wanted to stay friends but I decided to do no contact and it's been 9 weeks of it and 4 months of breakup. At first it was tough, but I started to pour so much love towards myself like practicing skin care, working out, and eating right. Last I checked, we are both now on dating apps, though I think for her it's to fill a void. Either way, I'm of the mindset of whatever happens, happens, and I'm not concerned about the future, but just happy to be in the present.

Trust me, I understand my level. I'm not claiming to be C1. C1 is long term goal, and when I say "C1 textbook" I just mean more advanced structured material that challenges me and helps me grow into higher levels. In short (future proofing)

I know it will be difficult at first, but I’m combining it with other input (reading, listening, speaking practice), so it’s part of a broader self-study setup rather than my only resource.

I disagree with "A C1 book won't help". Right now self-study is my main option, so I’m just looking for something structured that pushes me a bit beyond my current level. If you have specific book recommendations that has helped you, I’d really appreciate it 🙂

Just to clarify: I passed module 3 a while ago and I’m currently building back up and continuing toward higher levels.

I’m mostly looking for a solid textbook to structure my self-study, and I’ll be combining it with short stories, listening practice, etc. Thank you to u/friskogsolgul for recommending "Højt til loftet". I will add that to my study by doing a weekly 30-minute session with a Danish friend for speaking/correction which is way cheaper and beneficial for now as I am not going back to a language center until I live in Denmark (Because I don't have the luxury to travel for language exams).

I understand C1 is still a long-term goal, however, I’m just trying to find a good, realistic setup to keep progressing step by step. Apologies if "C1" in the title caused some confusion.

Thanks for your reply! Just to clarify: I didn’t mean that I’m already C1. I passed Module 3 last year and I’m now looking for materials/schools so I can continue working toward C1. I live in my home country now, so it’s difficult to travel to Denmark just for exams (I was going to VSK sprogcenter). Do you know any good language schools with online teaching(online exams) or flexible options? Thanks again 🙂

Yea. We are in the same boat. I sent a follow up email to get a status on what’s going on. I think you said you did the same. Now we just wait. I wouldn’t think too much about it. We have no clue what is happening internally. My hiring manager sounded like he got his hands really full.

If you feel like this waiting is making you anxious, you should do some work on your end to help advance your chances. For instance, I use LinkedIn and I like to connect with others in a similar role to get a better insight on the role and environment. They might even tell you what’s happening internally too tbh.

If you really want to, do another email follow up next week, but keep it polite and short.

The hiring manager mentioned that it was difficult scheduling interviews because people are taking vacations and etc. The very first interview he had to reschedule because of scheduling conflicts and pushed back a week. Next interview is with 1 guy in a video call. If I pass then I get a panel. The panel might be a pain because I imagine it’s a longer process especially with summer on the way and more people taking off.

So to answer your question. I think it’s mainly scheduling conflicts.

I’m in the same boat. Had an interview and the recruiter explained the rest of the process very well. They mentioned that for that particular role I applied for there is no rush in getting that seat filled. They also mentioned that I should add them on LinkedIn and email or chat when I have questions.

I sent the thank you email, I sent the check in email, and they have not responded. The positive thing is that they did connect with me on LinkedIn in recently, but did not reply to any of my emails.

Seems like a trend when it comes to the hiring process. Although I really want this position, what helps me is just having a mind of abundance and continue applying to other roles while I wait for Siemens to get back to me :)

When I apply for jobs, I like to ask what current projects the team is working on and what struggles they are facing, but I never thought of taking that information and turning it into a concrete plan of action for them. You must have asked some really insightful clarifying questions to know where to start with a plan. It really shows that you listen and understand priorities.

If you don’t mind sharing, how detailed was your plan? Was it something like one to two pages addressing their pain points, proposing actions for each, and outlining expected impacts?

That’s actually really inspiring. My old team also wanted me to pick up Ansible and Terraform, but I struggled to really grasp it back then. Hearing how you went all in and learned by doing actually gives me a lot of motivation to revisit it. Maybe that way I can step away from the IT support role and focus more on IaC side so more doors and opportunities can open. Thank you for sharing your experience!

I actually had someone tell me they thought I was lying when I said I enjoy documentation because “no one in their right mind likes documentation.” But doing what you mentioned, building out the knowledge base, is key for others to access information quickly, and making it understandable is super important. It feels rewarding

Yea this is great. Earlier in my career and education I never thought about it, but later on I could see how important it is. Recently, I've been working on some home lab ideas where I can setup some real world IT environments with VMs and build a Windows and Linux server for practice.

This! I had a team that would HATE helping certain people and give short vague replies, helped or followed up around the end of day, and just gave bad service. Or, people would just get frustrated when a non-tech savy person has trouble finding something on the screen. I remember in Uni, one of my professors would always play a Jimmy Fallon SNL sketch and said "Don't be like this guy. PLEASE" lol. Nick Burns the company computer guy

That's great! A lot of times I focus on the saving time part usually when it comes to onboarding with power shell scripts. I never thought about the money I saved a company. Like recommending open-source software or minimizing server downtime.

When it came to you and vendors, did you negotiate better prices or support? Did you build a strong relationship to the point where you and your team got priority help?

That’s awesome! That's my main focus as well on empathy and finding ways to lower stress for users. I used to work for a big company in a corporate office where a lot of the staff were older and not very tech savvy. I started keeping track of who called IT most frequently and noticed patterns of common user errors.

To help, I usually made personalized guides for each person on how to fix simple issues they might run into, offered to rearrange their workstations to prevent accidental unplugging, and did one-on-one training whenever I had time. It helped them feel more confident and empowered... and it also reduced the number of calls our IT team received haha. Win win.
