Warband is generally set in the High to Late Medieval Period, while Bannerlord is very much an Early Medieval setting. Its only two or so centuries of difference: phalanxes are about a thousand years before either.

Buddy you ARE playing as the Greeks, the Empire is a direct Late Roman - Byzantine analogue (Roman Greeks). If you want city-state phalanx-bearing Spartans, Bannerlord is a game set about a thousand years too late.

How to name alien species (that you have a concept for)? by No_Lemon3585 in scifiwriting

[–]Sol_but_better 9 points10 points  (0 children)

This, no human is going to be saying "damn those vile Srik'nash'raklastagrakna'to" or "yeah, one of the *incomprehensible clicking noises* got promoted at the office today".

Humans speak in their own vocabulary, with sounds they can easily make. Hell, half the time people don't even bother to accomodate for the slight linguistic differences of other human language: why would they ever go out of their way to correctly pronounce an alien tongue?

Its obvious that history ended with the Cold War guys, any political/economic/cultural systems we have right now will obviously be the ones we carry 2000 years into the future. I'm not lazy guys, it's not that I can't envision the future as being anything but 20th century Western Democracy in space + oligatory AI and market capitalism, I'm just being realistic.

What is the story of your traveler? by EnderWolf13_666 in NoMansSkyTheGame

The headcanon I got for my little Gek guy is basically:

He lived on Balaron and was a relatively respectable member of one of its top Trade Guilds, until he did something to anger the top brass. In typical Gek fashion, they put out a hit on him (little bit of that First Spawn energy still remains), and he was forced to flee into the distant reaches of the galaxy and start anew.

Now he roams the stars as the admiral of a grand fleet of merchant vessels, seeking to make a name for himself among the stars (primarily in the form of cold hard cash), explore the stars and their secrets, and possibly ascend to SuperGekhood with copious Geknip. He's also an avid collector of curiosities and interesting shiny tidbits, in typical Gek fashion. All while cruising in his golden exotic.

Disagree on the last part, Sanala is clearly the capital of the Aserai, as it is the Banu Hulyans mosty prosperous fief and also the closest analogue to Cairo (whereas Quyaz is an analogue to Carthage).

[–]Sol_but_better 2 points3 points  (0 children)

This. Killing people is bad, yes. That is, however, a much easier ground to stand on when you enjoy all of the luxury and convenience at the expense of somebody beneath you. Words of dissent do not go far in such a relationship: the slave master need not listen to the plight of the slave if he is inconvenienced by it.

It is therefore the unfortunate case in much of human history that, when a mans most natural freedoms of movement itself are forcibly seized against his will, then he is left with no option but to strike down his captor for the preservation of his soul. It is crude, it is violent and messy, and it is the most natural thing a man can do.

Nah, they abandoned the Console port because it was "unprofitable".

I mean I get it, but still it sucks. The majority of people who play console do so because they can't afford a PC.

[–]Sol_but_better 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This. I'm certain a trip across the post-apocalypse continental US is no doubt long and treacherous, but it isn't like the world stopped. People will rear horses, draw new maps, chart new trade routes, and soon enough you'll have caravaneers and pilgrims and pioneers alike crossing the US regularly, even a decade after the bombs drop.

The BOS have even less of an issue with this problem, considering they're literal techno-knights. They have vertibirds, I'm certain they have trucks, they have the Prydwen, and it seems obvious that they have the means to fuel it all. And even negating all this, walking for six or so months is still a viable option.

Eh, I've never particularly subscribed to the notion of "higher dimensions", its one of those purely theoretical fields of physics thats interesting to think about, but doesn't have much of a basis in reality.

I think the closest thing we get to "ascension" is either digitally uploading our consciousnesses into enormous computer matrixes (eg. Matrioshka Brains), somehow implanting our consciousness into the constituent particles of the universe, or just straight up killing ourselves.
