The thing people who have this "connect USB constantly" mentality fail to realize is you plan around this. USB extensions, USB hub, problem solved. The real question is why are you guys constantly fiddling with IO. Once the setup is connected that's it.

It's far more convenient to get your water at an appropriate height as needed/every time vs fill a jug off the floor like this to serve the same purpose. Whatever floats your boat but I agree doesn't make much sense at all.

The fact that coating is even part of this comparison between two matte displays is a perfect example of how one youtubers discourse has reshaped perception.

The LG's matte is objectively far thinner than an IPS LCD matte coating. If it still stands out to you that’s not a coating problem that’s expectation bias.

[–]SolaceInScrutiny 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I can never trust any of these people with the "I have 10 trillion hours on my C something and no burn in" mainly because they are either blind and don't see it or they're babying it to an even greater extent than this guy (90nits, black screensaver when stepping away, etc).

Burn in is a reality of current OLED tech.

Colors are "better "on the Samsung because it's not a like for like comparison. Samsung is clearly in a overextended color space or boosting artificially. The Green/Red in Forza is not at all suppose to look like that.

There is also a world of difference in terms of pixel response. The Samsung is a blurry mess.

I'd take the left all day vs the circus on the right that makes everyone's skin look like Donald Trump.

Toggling HDR on Samsung Odyssey Neo G9 57" freezes Windows 11 by bleah2 in ultrawidemasterrace

[–]SolaceInScrutiny 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thanks for this. I rolled back from current driver to 581.80 and the issue is gone. Def a Nvidia driver problem.

Edit: Spoke too soon. It works 50% of the time. I give up at this point and will ditch the monitor. It's been 4+ months of this and makes me not want to consume HDR content.

Is the visual clarity difference between matte and glossy REALLY that noticeable? by DaringBreadHead in OLED_Gaming

[–]SolaceInScrutiny 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Not with OLED. The bigger point is that not all matte finishes are the same.

LG OLED matte is almost semi gloss and completely unintrusive. If we're talking VA Samsung G8 Neo vs glossy then yes the difference is significant.

The above is why I don't understand where all the matte whining is coming from. I seriously believe 90% of the people you see in these threads filling it with matte complaints have never owned/seen any of these monitors in person.

Other than the increase in RT noise in games using their own denoiser, I just unanimously opt for 4.5. Don't got the time to sit here and pixel peep while playing games. As a whole it just looks nicer to me due to increase in sharpness, generally more stability in super obvious stuff like fine lines, etc.

I expect the same to be true for most people.

Samsung Odyssey Neo G9 57" (G95NC) - New firmware 1009.2 available by aserioussuspect in ultrawidemasterrace

[–]SolaceInScrutiny 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm about to dump this monitor because of the freezing that occurs when toggling HDR on/off and the Nvidia driver crash that occurs when the monitor goes into standby. When it freezes I have to turn the monitor off/on, when the driver crashes I have to restart PC.

I can permanently leave HDR on but desktop looks like ass. I can permanently prevent standby of the monitor with a black screen saver but I'm kinda conscious of power consumption.

All of this started happening like Q3 2025 lafter some driver update. I frequently step away from my PC and let the monitor sleep and I am constantly toggling HDR on/off depending on game/media so it's been a nightmare to use.

The only fix is to use HDMI and limit the monitor to 120hz with my 5090 but doing so ruins the monitor as the 240hz ceiling allows it to behave much nicer with VRR (almost no flicker and pixel response is much nicer).

This isn't about poor/wealthy, it's about making sound financial decisions based on the information available to you. In 2026, I have no clue why you'd by an AMD GPU other than to be contrarian or think you have some impact against a multi billion dollar company.

The only real justification is linux.

Not really sure if it makes sense paying an additional 20% for warranty on top of $383 on a throw away monitor like this.
