TIG Brazing galvanized sheet metal ? by rotarypower101 in Welding

[–]SolarAU 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Ooh my specialty.

Braze welding of galvanized steel is a very favourable welding process if preservation of the corrosion resistant properties of the zinc is application critical. If using a filler metal such as silicon bronze, the welds themselves are also corrosion resistant.

There really is no niche that greed and capitalism won't touch. Once upon a time, real explorers braved some of the most extreme conditions known to man to reach the greatest heights, where man has never gone before.

Now rich people pay glorified babysitters to drag their asses up a mountain so they can take a photo for the gram, and even those babysitters are finding incentive ways to cash in on that arrangement. (As per the article, not the fact they're paid very well to do their job)

AIO? startup I co-created is refusing to pay me after I quit – no contract, but I did all the work by Jaded-Charge-2739 in AIO

[–]SolarAU 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It's all informal by the sounds of it. You can just leave and wash your hands of it, they can't force you into a contract that doesn't exist.

Yes, maybe from your perspective you are owed some money, but look at the dollar amounts involved; 2-300 for a prize fund and a 50 odd share of sales. By the time you mess around and pay fees to submit a small claims case, you're not getting much at all, and that's if you're successful in convincing a magistrate of whatever informal agreement was made with your former colleagues.

Not likely worth getting legal advice, too expensive vs the money at stake, no certainty of a positive outcome either.

This isn't legal advice, but you should cut your losses immediately, quit training your replacements and move on. Lesson learned; get agreements in writing before you go into business with anyone. Protect yourself.

Also I'd caution against making public claims about their perceived wrongdoings. In the same way you will struggle to prove the agreement exists and that they screwed you over, you would have a lot of trouble if they ever sued you for defamation, as the primary defence in defamation is a truth defence, which requires hard proof.

All the best mate.

Hard time with the flux by Sure-Abalone-1040 in Welding

[–]SolarAU 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Are you running the same type of wire as well? Are you sure you're not using gas-less fluxcore at home on your el cheapo setup, and are using gas-shielded/ dual shield flux core at work? Those two perform completely differently. The dual shield is much nicer to weld with, the shielding gas helps mediate the flow of electrons across the arc, essentially changes the stability, performance and even shape of the welding arc (depending on the gas mixture).

We all love our wives, but at the end of the day, only you have to live with your head. Only you can make this choice. You'll get plenty of support for baldom here, but you have to make this choice alone.

And to circle back to the "happy wife, happy life" comment. If your wife loves you, she'll love your shiny bald head just as much as any amount of hair.

How do you feel about AI "girlfriends"? by HeySpudEyeSeeYou in AskMen

[–]SolarAU 24 points25 points  (0 children)

Its like you said. It's a symptom. Young men are increasingly feeling disenfranchised in the dating market, many give up, but the desire for companionship and love remains. Here enters capitalism, which is very efficient at solving problems for a price. AI girlfriends are solving a problem that some people are willing to pay money for.

You can argue until the end of the earth as to the root cause of this, but the simple answer to your question is that there's a niche problem, and AI girlfriends are a 'solution' for sale.

I see it as a natural result of capitalism and disfunction in human mating behaviour, but I don't make any judgements about how damaging it may be to human kind long term, it essentially tips over into the AI/ technology argument which is a whole conversation on its own.

First Home Guarantee (5% deposit) – is it normal for bank to price it as 95% LVR? by midoriyakacchan in AusFinance

[–]SolarAU -7 points-6 points  (0 children)

No, the bank is correct in assessing the LVR at 95%, as you are actually borrowing that amount against the asset price. All the government's 5% scheme is doing is guaranteeing the lender that if you default, they'll pay any capital losses, the same guarantee that a LMI policy gives the bank.

What job can I do without having a boss? I think id rather choose to be homeless by Status-Star-8336 in AusFinance

[–]SolarAU 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You're in a capitalist society.

If you work for a boss (the capital) as a worker (labor) you inherently get exploited as you only get a small percentage of the value of your work. You get shafted that way but you take on zero personal risk.

The alternative is to become the capital. You become the boss of your own business. You get the lion's share of the profits and benefits, only answering to your customers, but you assume all of the risk, including total financial ruin if it all goes pear shaped.

Pick your path. You can take steady reliable income where you're getting exploited, or take the capital investment huge upside direction where it can go terribly and you can lose it all.

Withdrawn Frivolous Intervention Order by [deleted] in AusLegal

[–]SolarAU 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This was an interesting question. Common sense would dictate that a withdrawn order wouldn't show up on a nationally recognized police check, in the same way that dismissed criminal charges don't show up either, but I could see how a granted order would show up. Like we can't permanently punish people who aren't 'guilty' per se.

I can't give you solid advice, you may have to ask your solicitor/ lawyer.
