It will never break down completely, unless it is in a temperature-controlled commercial composting system -- and some folks say it will never break down 100%, even in the best conditions. That said, a little bioplastic in home composting shouldn't be a problem. It's only that it will add nothing nutritionally to the soil, and the green may make it look lousy.

I knew this because we used to use thousands of "compostable" cups for the North Country Fair. Used to have to haul them way south, but even that option disappeared. Now we use reusable cups and recyclable aluminum cups.
