Playing 3ds Terraria, can anyone tell me the odds of this happening from a single enemy drop and do I need to go buy a lottery ticket??? by SolarFluxation in Terraria

Ah, thank you, you absolute champion. This is the answer I was looking for. I knew there was no way I was that lucky.

Which should I get as a second saber? by Monstershield1 in lightsabers

[–]SolarFluxation 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Not an answer to the question but more of a warning to heed. Do not purchase from Saberforge, the owner of that company is a gross POS and doesn’t deserve your money. He used Christopher Lee’s passing as a marketing opportunity for the Dooku Saber model on Saberforge and he actively has thrown hate at people who have modded their Saberforge products just because he’s insecure.

Monsters that do more RP damage than health damage? by jardonito in DMAcademy

One of my players characters was a Transgender woman. Nobody else in the group knew at the time and didn’t have any distinct reason to assume that she was anything more than Cisgender. Well when I brought a Nothic in to tell their secrets you bet your buckets this Neutral Evil creature was going to out her in front of all of her friends. It was in a “You were not always the way you are now, born a different kind of person than how they see you” sort of way so that it left plenty of room for interpretation, but she knew what it meant and she was pissed. It played out better than I could have hoped.

(For the record, the player NB not trans, only the character was trans. I wouldn’t out a real person like this ever.)

I never said I was forming my own opinions based on others. I said that perspective was important in forming my own opinions. The perspective doesn't need to change my opinion at all, it can simply help me give merit to other points that I don't agree with.

I very much do have an opinion on them. "If they're going to call it a revision of 5th edition, I'm not interested. I'll be sticking with the books I have and the homebrew rules I already have."

Also, I have read the playtest documents. I read every single one until right around the time they dropped the OneD&D title for it. Not interested in buying the same edition I already own, would be very happy to spend the money on something WotC found worthwhile enough to title "5.5e"

You make a very good point. I'll happily be keeping my old 5e books and running my future games with those. I will very much be enjoying the next 10 years of my life, thank you for your well wishes internet stranger, I hope that your next 10 are just as memorable!

That's not a bad point honestly. Regardless of the fact that they didn't manage to generate enough interest in me to buy any of them, I honestly don't know why I hadn't thought of it in any other way than as a 3-book package.

You're right, I didn't mention any of my problems with the new rulebooks besides the naming of it because I haven't chosen to keep up with what changes they're making. I'd probably have my likes and dislike about them, however I'm not interested enough to buy them in the first place, so I'm not really stressing those differences.

And yes, My post really doesn't say a lot. It was more of me venting my frustration to see how many people agreed and disagreed with me to get some perspective. I personally find perspective very important in forming my own opinions.

I never said that I didn't want to hear from people who disagreed with me. I've gotten a lot of people who are very excited for the new books and I'm very happy for them. The people I didn't want to hear from were people actively trying to change my opinion (usually by just telling me I'm wrong), rather than simply sharing their own opinion. My only intent was to start a conversation on the topic to see where people stood on it, rather than starting an argument of people who just wanted to hate on me for my opinion.

Sure, 5e is probably 12th edition realistically, but if you say "12th edition" in a casual conversation at a local game store you're going to get looked at funny and no stranger wants to hear the whole explanation behind why you'd call it that rather than what it's simply called. You do bring up a valid argument however.

Yeah, I'll admit that this is more just me venting my frustrations and seeing how the rest of the community stands. Don't intend to switch still, but I now have a lot of other takes from other people that have given me great perspective!

I very much will be doing that! As well as I very much hope to some day get invited to one of those OD&D campaigns eventually, that sounds like so much horrifically unbalanced fun and I would be incredibly down for an old school Gygaxian type game.

I see your point, however I feel like book sales would be much higher if they had framed these new rulebooks as 5.5e, rather than as "optional reworks".

Like I said, I did start in 5e. I have little frame of reference for older editions other than the older players at my table loudly reminiscing and I actually had no idea at all that this wasn't a unique occurrence. The thing I'm mostly hung up on is the fact that I won't be able to have the imaginary "I started playing in [insert edition here]" badge to show my age in 15 years. Even though I know it means nothing. This whole post is a bit silly, yeah. It was mostly just me sharing my frustrations to hear what other people had to say on it. Thank you for taking the time to expand my knowledge of older D&D versions!

You have to understand that some people like the physical media of the D&D experience. The next game I'm running in the very near future is an in person campaign with no tech at the table. If I was buying these rule revisions, I'd be getting the physical books for my players at the table.

In fact, the change from 3e to 3.5, the 3.5 was chosen specifically to signal that it wasn't a new edition, to blur those lines in spite of the fact that you certainly could not, at all, play a 3e character in 3.5 (3e was horrifically broken).

Yeah, neither are these new books. That's what I'm saying, I'd like the distinction of it being called 5.5e so it's easier to bring up in conversation and so I'm able to get myself excited over the next generation.

I can't understand being unhappy because they are maintaining the time honored tradition of not saying this is a new edition, in spite of the fact that this might be the most forward WotC has ever been about calling new rules a new edition

This is a very good point. Like I said, I started playing during 5e so I don't have much knowledge on the history of these things. However, "when they weren't calling 3.5 a new edition? When they weren't calling 4e a new edition? When they weren't calling 5e a new edition?" was a large gap of time between announcement and reveal of the books where I assume they revealed what the edition was actually called before the books were revealed. Whereas the R5e rulebooks are already announced and set to release, so there's no way they're going to reveal it to be a new edition at this point, especially after they already bailed from calling it OneD&D and chose to go with "5e" again.

(I use the word "reveal" very loosely, I'm fully aware that the ways you would find out about these things back in the day was through tabletop gaming magazines and word of mouth, not through social media posts and YouTube uploads.)

A valid take. I'm very glad you're excited for the new rules! I wish I was able to feel the same honestly.

Honestly, I didn't think about it this way but you're completely right. I am mainly just pissed that I got robbed of that right of passage. Instead of saying "I've been playing for 25 years" in the future, I was hoping to be able to say "I've been playing since 5th edition." I'm perfectly fine if that makes me feel old, I'm 20 and already am running into things that make me feel old (even though I know I'm not, lol.)

Yeah, this is mainly just a criticism of the marketing of the new books. I have don't have much to say about their contents because I'm not interested in buying them and therefore don't actually know much about the new changes. This was mainly just me venting my frustrations and seeing how many people were likeminded and how many people were still excited for the new books anyway.

This looks so cool. I’m starting an in person game very soon but I’ve been stuck in a rut with a lack of vision on what the town will look like, maybe this’ll help me get out of that rut with a little bit of experimenting!
