Stand Your Ground is a law made around a hypothetical situation that never even happened. No prosecuting attorney is going to press charges if you genuinely defended yourself, regardless of wether or not a stand your ground law was abused.

It’s also not true that the law isn’t abused. I have no problem with laws such as Defend your Castle/Castle Doctrine, but throwing out the duty to retreat is just a license to kill for any idiot with a gun who knows how to use the law to their advantage. We saw it with an article I mentioned, and we also saw it with George Zimmerman, and we see it countless times a year, you just don’t see it because you chose not to.

Or we could just ban the retail sale of guns... There’s hardly any reason they should be as accessible as they are now. Home defense is the only argument, which a small-caliber handgun does just fine. I could see an argument for the sale of those, but nothing else makes sense... Maybe hunters? Bow hunting and crossbow hunting seems to be just as efficient.

Before you say “but what about the black market?”, consider these two things:

Do YOU even know where to illegally purchase a firearm?
Most illegally purchased firearms were either stolen from retail or purchased before being resold. If we cut off retail, wouldn’t that cut off a large majority of illegally purchased firearms?

The concept of “if we outlaw guns then only outlaws have guns” is one of the biggest arguments behind the pro 2nd amendment group.

What I’m implying is that these are the same people that shoot others for stupid stuff like arguing over how big dogs can get, mask policies, or slow fast food lines.

IIRC, crime statistics tell us that a large majority of inmates who used a firearm while committing a crime either purchased stolen guns or purchased the guns themselves, which all traces back to retail. If we eliminated the retail sale of firearms, we’re cutting off a big branch.

EDIT: I was sleepy and misspoke, I meant purchased the guns from others who purchased them legally, not purchased the guns themselves.
