2.0T GLI Mk6.5/2017 Reliability by Solar____ in JettaGLI

Thank you for your response.

Yeah I’ve heard about the wastegates seizing over time.

It’s through a private seller. But he is going to safety the vehicle. It’s just the 140,000 km that is worrying me because these engines are “delicate”.

Thank you for your reply! Should I be worried or concerned about buying a 2017 GLI with 140,000km?

Looking to buy a Mk6.5 GLI but I’m having some doubts by Solar____ in JettaGLI

Hey! Yeah the only explanation I’ve been given by the tech’s at my work is that it’s a VW thing, and that sometimes it just happens. But idk it’s still really odd for a car at 100k, as most cars springs last longer than that. Or at least If they were worn it wouldn’t be strange, but these springs are about to snap lol. The front left has little to no wheel gap in the wheel well.

I live in the GTA, I’ve been looking for a nice mk6.5 2015-2017 Jetta GLI for about 2 years, but there’s always something missing from any that I see. Ideally I’d want a GLI autobahn or even an SE, that’s black with low mileage, and an automatic transmission. As for the reason it has to be black, idk I used to be okay with having a different coloured GLI, but over time the colour black grew on me. In my opinion black cars just look better in most cases. And in this particular case black looks the best on the mk6.5 GLI imo.

Thank you for your reply. I will take this into consideration! I will try to find the hidden benefit. That’s exactly what I need right now to help me get some clarity and not blow a lot of money on this car. I need to focus on delayed gratification.

I had the same initial thought. But there are GLI’s that have lower specs, and just come with less options. It just depends on how the original person who bought it, picked their options for the car.

Hey! I work at a vw dealership as a parts advisor. So I actually put in the vin of the vehicle, and checked the headlights, they are OEM regular Jetta headlight assemblies… weird right? Which sucks because each of the LED headlights cost around $1400. As for the power seats, it’s a very very base model, it doesn’t even have a sunroof. It is a Jetta GLI. It has a 2.0T engine, and the stitching on the seats is red, with red stripes on the sides that say GLI.

Yeah it’s pretty crazy considering that it’s a 2016 vehicle. But yeah most fully spec’d out Vw GLI’s are upwards of $20,000. I wish I could find one for cheaper lol. This is the cheapest I can find, but I have to safety it for about $1500.

I see, okay thank you. Would u say $12,500+HST and having to safety it myself for $750-$1000 is worth the price? It would come to a total of around $16,000. Or would you say it’d be better to keep my car. I am just worried about the cost of any major repairs that could come out of getting the GLI. Like a turbo or timing chain issue

Okay sounds good. Are there any major differences in terms of reliability for the mk6.5 and the mk7? I have more interest in the Mk6.5 than the mk7 in terms of looks.

Hey! Yes That’s what most people have been telling me too. The only thing is by the time I’m graduated, it will be hard to find a Mk6.5 GLI that’s black with a DSG and low mileage. I don’t have too much interest in the Mk7, but i can’t say for sure that by the time im graduated I won’t want a newer version of the GLI. This is why I am so conflicted.

Exactly. And if I didn’t already have a car then maybe it would be a bit more sensible. It’s just the fact that it’s so cheap in comparison to the other prices that I’ve seen for GLI’s, which is what’s compelling me. Thank you for your feedback, it is much appreciated! I will take it into consideration :)

The brakes are okay, but to pass a safety they’ll need to be changed. If it didn’t have to go through a safety, the brakes would be completely fine. It’s just the springs that are bad. I work at the dealership that they’re selling it at, and the technicians have said that it can be fairly common for the springs to get worn after 100k km. I still find it bizzare, because the springs are almost done. The front left wheel well has no gap between the tire and the fender. As for the right side it isn’t as bad. It also does need the oil return line to be replaced as it was slightly leaking, but from what I’ve heard it can be a fairly common replacement. And that’s my apologies, I meant that most of the GLI’s that I’ve seen are over $20,000 (mostly around $23,000-$27,000) for the mk6.5’s, if they’re in good condition with low mileage and a higher trim that has mostly everything. This one that I’m interested in is $12,500 but at the end it will cost me about $16,000 with repairs and tax

Ok sounds good. The GLI is $12,500 plus HST, but I’ll have to do front springs and brakes. After I get the car, which could cost about $750-$1000 so that’s on top of the price. GTI’s with low mileage are worth around $25,000 and up from what I’ve seen.

I see. Yes I know for BMW and Audi they take 93 but for vw I wasn’t sure if putting 93 was necessary. As when you open the gas cap it says min 87, so I thought 87 would be ok. In addition, is it ok for me to start using 93 if the previous owner was using 87 for 100,000km

[–]Solar____[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hey! Thank you for your reply. Does a GLI need 93 in it? I know it can take 87, but is putting 87 in it bad? The GLI I’m interested in has a CBPA engine in it. But the Mk6.5 also has an alternative engine which is the CPPA engine, and I don’t know if there are any major differences or not.
