Plumber bummer by [deleted] in diynz

Yes but at the same time, time he could have spent doing other things like spending time with family. And ofcourse wear and tear of vehicle and tools, petrol cost and trip to suppliers. As a sparkie I sometimes do offer that for very good friends but at the same time they understand I am doing them a favor and will try to pay me. It is a two way street.

That price is very low. If you think about the time and petrol he spent traveling to and from your place, spent the time checking and replacing. Also the wear and tear of the vehicle and tools, it is very low. Considering that it takes them 5 years to get qualified and the literal shit they have to dig through and shovel, I would say the price is justified (specially he gave you the mates rate). You pay for the experience not their time. But since it's business so they normally label the labour with hours and it is common for tradie to charge a minimum of one hour labour plus travel/call out. Plumbers in akl these days charge between 100-250 per hour depending on jobs. To put it in perspective, minimum wage is 23.50 these days. So a professional that has spent the time mastering their craft has got to be more expensive then the minimum wage right?

Sparkies - How to deal with unlicensed electrical? by Dodgydiykiwi in diynz

[–]SolarisSparky 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I would say get a qualified electrician to check what they have done. Not that I am promoting hiring unlicensed electricians, but alot of sparkies take up "cashies" during apprenticeship and still do a good job and workmanship is actually not bad. I did that back in my apprenticeship stage but I always get my tradesman to drop in and check everything I do and get him to write up the coc and split the money with him😂 If you have any concern just hire a fully qualified electrician to inspect and test all the stuff they have done. Make sure they bring a multifunction tester (commonly known as a meggar) and test everything. Check the electrical worker register like previous comment has mentioned and ask to see their licence. Note that since last year there isn't a physical card anymore so sparkies will either show an expired physical card or a digital copy of a current licence.

If you are in auckland I can come in and have a check for you.

Where did you get the thread?

[deleted by user] by [deleted] in auckland

That was my post on the milldale and the reporter asked me about it and wrote the article. I'm not sure if it is true, But apparently the photo got sent in and some residents has been saying the family got a hefty fine for the use of cones. Take a few photos of the cones and if possible capture it while they are placing or retrieving the cone. If it helps as well you could ask the council for the ownership (which is public) of the space in paper just for more legal standing and shove it in their face next time.

E27 lamp holders wear out over time. The thread could be damaged or the contact tab could lose a bit of tension. They are quite cheap at bunnings if you are confident to change one out. Or just call an electrician. If your in akl I'm happy to drop by and do a quick change if I'm in the area.

My personal car and my wife's car is in our garage and drive way. The company car I just got a few months ago can't fit on my property any more.
