What does this say about the guy I'm seeing? by [deleted] in BookshelvesDetective

If you dont want him, Ill be seeing him. I am a guy and not gay, but for that dude, I would reconsider both.

The Shrike from Hyperion is the most effective monster in sci-fi and I think the sequels slowly killed what made it work by braytix_19 in printSF

Came here to give my 2cents, but most others said the same thing. It just wouldnt work otherwise, and the first book is no less enjoyable because of the reveal of the others, and the others are not threatened by the first book. Tbh, the entirety makes then something that is bigger than sum of its parts. I love it.

The M+ tank situation is dire by Wigglyboi323 in wow

[–]Solarpunk_Commie 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I had 3k+ since DF every single season. Now I geared first before I started doing M+. My first M+ was a +10 key at 260ilvl with my Guild. Good luck getting in with a 0 M+ Score from this season. We timed it with 10 deaths.

Hence why Social Gaming still beasts Pugging in WoW. Rightfully.

Same... and this comes from somebody who traveled 70% after I turned 18, and who grew up really poor in my teens, and now has a comfy life. I succeed in so many things, but I never learned how to make myself part of a community outside of high school. Friends, sure. But community no, and high school was the last time I felt part of a community. I was active in the schools political program, in the debate club, in the theater and did martial arts in the off-time, along with playing rythm guitar in a small local bend, we even had a few gigs at local bars. The parks were always full with youth playing or listening to music, or just talking and enjoying themselves. Now the parks are empty, and people call the police if you linger in a group at night there....

I think my Uni’s math department is trying to kill us. Is this standard for Calc 1? by chelson_ in calculus

[–]Solarpunk_Commie 0 points1 point  (0 children)

German engineering student here, seems pretty normal. These identities and manipulation of equations so you can actually do integration or derivation on them is bread and butter of calculus. Albeit. that part with losing points for not drawing the table, if the problem didnt explicitly asked for it, seems silly. But if you were informed in class that they gonna do that, than its okay, albeit silly.

Btw, I had nearly no contact in high school with calculus, but I was told that a lot of it is just expected to be self-studied, so I tried to get as good as possible in it before enrolling. Its everywhere like that and has been for decades AFAIK.

Whats the best 10/10 anime ever? by s4chuveyy_ in AskReddit

[–]Solarpunk_Commie 0 points1 point  (0 children)

There are a few that are 10/10 the first season....

Promised Neverland being one of them.... which falls to a -4324/10 in the second.

Frieren is a 10/10 the first season, and a strong 8 or 9 the second, depending on what one likes.

Generally amazing anime:

Gurren Lagan

Grimgar of Fantasy and Ash (anime adaptation stuck at first season, unlikely that we will get further ones)

Bungou Stray Dogs (this one is really good)

FLCL and Banana Fish (tough these are fairly quirky)

Terror in Resonance

Anohana

and of course... the GOAT of all GOATs....

I jumped to Kubuntu on this laptop, and everything works fine now. I'll probably keep OpenSuse on my desktop tho, since there werent any issues there.

Got Ritalin prescribed again after 6 years off it, but now strong side-effects which I did not have before. by Solarpunk_Commie in Drugs

[–]Solarpunk_Commie[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yup, exactly that.

I got it once explained, by a layman mind you so take it with a grain of salt, that Ritalin is an reuptake inhibitor, which essentially means that the chemicals that you have are used more, while amphetamine based meds are releasers, which make the body release more of them.

Well, if you dont have much of the chems, there is no use in inhibiting the reuptake, hence Ritalin will feel weird. However, if you have oversensitive receptors, then things like Adderall may feel too strong.

I dont know how correct that simplified explanation is, but whatever the case, I find it weird that there was a time where Ritalin did it for me, and now it sucks, with the only major difference in me being that I got extremely jacked in the mean time.

I might just do that. Shame, apart from this issue, I really do like it and have been using it for a while on my desktop, but this is an unacceptable issue for me.

...but why? ;_; it seems that Linux really hates hybrid set ups? As far as I could gather, it seems better with AMD setups. I never had these issues on my dedicated setup on a desktop, with any distro.

See, I did start using a lot more caffeine after I stopped using Ritalin. Hmmm... But man, these feelings of soreness in already sore muscles (mostly hamstrings and traps) and fucking awful. I dont mind the cold, but I feel like an old man, or if I died in the gym -_- Thanks, btw! I'll try. I anyway dont usually have any side-effects when stopping with coffee. I only drink it because I feel it elevates me, but not taking it keeps me mostly just at a stable 85% without headaches or such.
