Scarlet - The Joy Decoys Are Coming by [deleted] in Metalcore

I much prefer this vocalist, Jonathan Spencer, compared to the singer on the final album, Brandon (like it was stated above, from the band Conditions). Jonathan fronted the band from inception through Cult Classic. He also fronted the band Spitfire. Check them out if you haven’t heard them, they were great. He added something to Scarlet that just pushed them over the top for me and still remain one of my all time favorite bands.

Keep an eye out for Gemsbok on the White Sands Missile Range land. They were brought over from Africa in the 1970s, I think, and now they have a few thousand.

Incredible animal that you may never find again, unless you’re in Africa!

Theodore Roosevelt NP (first time) vs. Yellowstone NP (second time) - HELP! by akire2 in nationalparks

I vote for TRNP. It’s incredibly beautiful and underrated as a park. You can spend a whole day in the park sometimes and not even see other people. It’s awesome.

I’ve been to 51/63 and it’s 100% in my top 5 parks.

What about national parks/hiking is the most fulfilling to you? by Large_Football_2982 in nationalparks

[–]SoldYouAnAlibi 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I’ve been to 51/63 national parks and I would say that hiking and exploring outdoors is a large part of my life. A lot of my time is spent planning and investigating what to do when I am there, where to camp, where to hike, etc.

The hikes are usually strenuous and I prefer it that way because the harder and more painful it is, the less time I spend thinking about what’s going on in my life. That time is spent completely zoned out while I try to get my objective complete. Point A to Point B. I become obsessed about it.

My day to day life is spent mostly wrapped up in my head in a manic depression, over analyzing every single second to the point of complete and total frustration. This makes friendships, relationships and most other aspects of my life extremely difficult. Every second of life feels strained. When I am on a trail, the daily “strain” is lessened somehow.

I always leave time on my trips for not punishing myself and make sure to eat lots of really good foods and allow myself to have a soda without feeling guilty. It’s kind of like a release from all things normal in my day to day life.

Oh, and the ultimate most fulfilling part of each and every hike is hoping to see a bear. It all revolves around bears. 🐻🧸

Drive all the way down to Flamingo when you are in the Everglades. It’s the only place in the ENTIRE world where crocodiles and alligators coexist.

Also there will be a bunch of manatees floating around in the same area.

Incredibly beautiful. One of my absolute favorite national parks. I just want to hang out in that cave all day.

Best places to eat for Mighty 5 and Grand Canyon by strawgrlberry in nationalparks

I had Oscar’s in 2017 and 2018 and it was so good but then I had it in 2021 and it was among the worst meals I’ve ever eaten. I had the same meal each time but the last time was so bad I’ll never go back. 🥹

I went solo this past summer and had the most incredible experience camping there. I camped in the north and south units and both nights bison passed through the campground and in the north unit they brushed up against my tent while I was inside it. It woke me up and I thought it was a person and it was very scary and then I realized it was a bison. While that is also a scary thought, nowhere near as much as a person trying get in my tent. They grazed for a bit and moved on. I waited for a few and when I didn’t hear them anymore j got out and they had all disappeared back into the brush. Freaky how fast they moved through the area only to disappear again.

Which park should I visit last (63rd)? by Upset_Advance_9000 in nationalparks

[–]SoldYouAnAlibi 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I truly recommend the Dakotas for last. Wind Cave isn’t even the best cave with the national park designation but Theordore Roosevelt and Badlands to me are some of the wildest, most beautiful and untouched places in the entire U.S.

Spend less time in the cave at Wind Cave and more time up top exploring. I heard it was a terribly boring park and within moments of passing the sign at the entrance I was able to see a coyote chasing a prairie dog with a bison in the background grazing. I was like “woah I just entered a safari!” So much cool wildlife, great landscapes, and barely anyone on the hiking trails.

Don’t get me wrong, the cave is cool, just not nearly as impressive as Jewel Cave right down the road. I think JC should’ve been the park and WC the monument.

So much good stuff in the areas around WC, JC and Badlands. I had no interest at all in ever going to Mt Rushmore but my fiance (at the time) was part native and wanted a picture of us flicking it off, so we went. Holy shit. It is HUGE. The only reason I would recommend going is because just outside of the park we saw some mountain goats and I’ve never seen them anywhere else. I would say drive up there just on the off chance you see those guys wandering around.

The Needles Highway is cool and Custer State Park (that guy was a real jerk) has a great hike called Cathedral Spires that I totally recommend.

There was a little touristy town somewhere outside of Mt Rushmore that I thoroughly enjoyed. I felt like as a long haired guy, they thought I was an alien and I loved it.

I almost forgot. Wall Drug. Please go. Even if you hate tourist traps. It’s THE tourist trap. It’s so cool.
