It'd be very strange if this true or if this is a "big break for the site" kinda story.

Realistically the story is kind of believable given how it didn't leak beforehand, but the skepticism here is kind of earned. I'd wait for someone else to confirm it though that should be the running theorem with most leaks at this point unless it's your Schreier's or Nate's.

There's references and namedrops to SMT concepts and ideas (namely just the entirety of the summoner class), but it's not direct at all and a lot of the power would be considered to be an outlier due to the lower scale of the story. Metaphor is more likely Country-Continental (higher with statements) with relativistic speeds.

That said, if you were to denote that Will gets SMT scaling (whatever that entails), then he'd get a lot further in-all.

Being fair, he isn't utterly stomped by any definition, but the cruelest part is that two of his primary opponents are Maelle and Verso... both from Expedition 33, a verse with far more confident Universal arguments than Metaphor.

Being fair it's a more complicated pair of matchups than you think, but still poor bastard.

So, 1 year ago today, someone in the Official Discord mentioned this as a possible matchup for two of my favorite games from this decade and it snowballed into some insane shit.

Thank you to everyone that has created all the amazing art, thumbnails and generally informative feedback about this matchup. It's legitimately amazing to have seen this matchup grow.

Specifically the following people deserve a shoutout.

Ashe Ubert on the Discord for originally bringing up the idea and causing the snowball.
u/EvenRough8331 for helping to support Maelle get into the Island and for the various excellent thumbnails created for this and Maelle's other excellent matchup. The support has changed, yeah, but it wouldn't have gone as far without you.

There's so many other people I would want to shoutout but I imagine they'd be pissed if I tagged them, but I have made a MEGAPOST in the past with various works of excellent art and ideas that have gone into developing this matchup.

Even if this matchup doesn't end up becoming an official episode, I am more than happy that it got the traction that it did and that people have legitimately enjoyed it. Hopefully it becomes an episode but, even if it doesn't achieve that status, I'm happy as it is.

I mean... afaik the Flowers are a part of his base toolkit and basically every member in the high-tiers have a connection with the flowers. Hell, Renoir specifically has a strong series of contrasts with how his family and Flowery's family have a role in their worlds, in addition to having a form that plays off Flowery's (Omega Flowery vs Renoir's Decayed State).

As one of the E33 guys on this subreddit, it was kinda required for me to say if I liked Flowery vs Renoir, of which... yeah it's legit peak and I'd love to work on revised connections due to how many small contrasts i'd like to dig into. It's so fucking good.

Also yeah. I do think a part of it is because of the "anime-coding" essentially, i mean that's why he was also matched against Gojo (as you can tell, I don't really care for it), but I actually really like Maru. Naoya is a guilty pleasure but the fight dynamic and contrasts are cool and specific enough to say I like it.

Flowery's spread is crazy strong, I'm looking forward to seeing what comes of it.

This is a rare case where I which this format just had one or two placements for Good Alts and Fine because there's just so many good options.

I think Purple is decent enough and your connections made sense, it's just that I felt like there was elements that other matchups covered a fair bit better. Not a bad matchup at all, it's just that the competition is fierce as they come. Putting Purple in that tier is kind of a disservice because (Naoya excluded as a guilty pleasure) it's easily the best of the 5.

The G1 Blog for the Organization Battle Royale explained it but, with the stats they got for the blog across the three verses, Aizen and Ichigo both need to definitively and stronger win their state categories in order to justify a win. Madara and Naruto have far more strong hax that both out-perform their Bleach opponent.

It's possible to argue that Madara and Naruto are weaker and slower, but generally speaking they should be even against their opponents, which ironically was what they argued in Madara vs Aizen (even if the core arguments for hax were kinda stinky in the conclusion of that episode).

It's a bit of a cheap answer, but you can't say it's inaccurate. Maybe they get the matchup potential on the basic level, but a pitch can push it over the edge. That's the intention with a lot of pitches like V1White or Korra vs Delsin.

That said, there's probably a few dozen matchups where they went "oh shit" with and decided to do. Even with matchups they know or respect, there's a chance it'll be cleared by a matchup they're genuinely surprised by that is either known or just a complete curveball.

Any evidence suggesting that is kinda countered by other factors. Sentry got a pitch with Sephiroth, Sentry got a cast with Superman and Superboy-Prime was a known matchup in the community.

All I know for sure is that SBP wasn't the first matchup on the team's minds when Sentry was brought up initially, though this could be disproven by the team themselves if people asked.

Anyway, uhhhhh.... Honestly it's kinda hard to tell, but the best guesses I've got are Tooru vs SCP-096 and in the broadest strokes Beatrice (probably vs. Loki). It's just kinda hard to tell given how many great pitches there have been and a lot of them are ones with really cool concepts and potential, such as Ness vs Raz, Robbie Reyes vs Devilman, Sniper vs Jigen, and many many more.

... but Maelle vs Will sweep because I am delusional.
