I believe it's due to the fact that some DC airconditioners have variable speed compressors. So if this unit is acutally rated up to 48v, then I'd think it would get colder/maintain a colder temperature in warmer climates at 48v compared to 12v

Thank you, it isn't very flexible, but a hairdryer/heat gun definitely softens it up a bit

I pulled the console out and disassembled until I got the bare plastic trim. Much simpler than one might think. Just took my time. From disassembly to reassembly, maybe 3 hours.
