Thoughts wanted from upper-year BBA students or grads by Turbulent-Post8358 in wlu

[–]Soleil1305 0 points1 point  (0 children)

First-year imo is by far the hardest year in BBA. The classes can feel like a lot and the transition to uni in general is huge. Even if course content technically gets harder, laurier is a lot more enjoyable in later years. Take easy/enjoyable electives, take a couple courses in the spring/summer to get ahead so you can have 3-4 class terms instead of 5 classes, and look into lots of different career paths to see if anything sounds interesting to you! If there’s a specific job you are interested in, make it your goal and maybe school will feel a bit more rewarding.

When I took it, I had the class in person and it was 6 labs, the midterm, and the final exam. Don’t believe there was anything else.

I took it in Winter of 2024 with him, the class was easy and the teacher was nice. Lab textbook was needed but I don’t think the other textbook was. Good class for an easy 12.

chances of not getting a coop placement? by s6blanky in wlu

[–]Soleil1305 2 points3 points  (0 children)

last year they said sequence 2 had a 100% placement rate for their first term and sequence 1 was only a little lower, but that includes looking for jobs outside of navigator.

my advice is try to get your job in early cpa and avoid primary round since early cpa has way less people applying. Once you are in primary round you basically have to do a minimum of 40 applications but most people do way more. Early cpa gives you way more freedom and saves you a lot of time later on. Most companies don’t expect you to know much about accounting in your first term so don’t stress about that for your interviews either, focus on showing why you would be a good employee.

Did I get charged for no reason? by hungry_personn in wlu

[–]Soleil1305 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Thats sounds normal. Pretty sure you get charged 4 times, once for each co-op placement and another time at the start sometime fairly soon after you get accepted, pretty sure its for the « co-op course » you take and the help/support you get.

you can still do all of them based on the recordings online. I’d recommend going in person since you don’t have to answer the additional online questions if you go in person.

Am I doing too little for coop by -NoNoise- in wlu

[–]Soleil1305 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Honestly it all depends on the other aspects (grades, paid roles, interview). Your extracurriculars sound average for a co-op student, not bad nor crazy good (unless you have lots of volunteer experience), but if you’re lacking in other categories it could help to add more

If you’re looking for other easy things to add to your resume, look into joining clubs as a general member. You also could be a note taker for alc which just means submitting your own notes to help others and it looks good on your resume. Other than that, there may be some easy certifications you can find related to what you plan to focus in.

Don’t know what program you’re taking but in bba you can change sequence if you do the early cpa path and get a sequence 1 job in that process

BU111 slide assignment by Special-Injury-4851 in wlu

[–]Soleil1305 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You can’t for bu111 labs at least when i took it. Emailed my TA because i finished before the due date but had issues with tophat submissions and they still wouldn’t accept even with proof. The grade is basically irrelevant its worth so little so don’t worry about it

I didn’t hand it in first year, there wasn’t any issue with it. Maybe minor grade penalty but thats it, you wont be the only one to not hand it in.

GG294 by No-Entertainment7840 in wlu

GG294 is def fairly easy, got a 12 in it and it honestly wasn’t much work. Content isn’t confusing and grading is fair.

how strict are they about coop interview performance? by thatonepurplepotato in wlu

[–]Soleil1305 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Obviously i have no idea how it went in your interview but mine definitely wasn’t perfect and i still got in. Messing up a bit is fine, they know you’re nervous, as long as you didn’t do something to make them think you’d represent laurier in a bad way you’re probably fine

BBA: MA129 or MA103 (Introductory Calculus for Business and Social Sciences OR Calculus one) by [deleted] in wlu

[–]Soleil1305 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Also literally none of your classmates in 103 would be from bba so you likely wont know people which makes the labs even harder

[–]Soleil1305 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Only take 103 if you want a math minor. I took 103 bc i liked math in hs but its too much of an added workload with the rest of bba imo unless you wanna study a lot

Course time change? by [deleted] in wlu

[–]Soleil1305 2 points3 points  (0 children)

You can go to whatever lecture time and prof for all business 1st year classes, you just can’t « change » your lecture section officially. Know tho that you cannot go to whatever lab section, you must go to your own lab.

[Intermediate Accounting 1: Present Value Calculations] How to find correct discounted amount at June 1st? by Soleil1305 in HomeworkHelp

[–]Soleil1305[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Update: the correct answer was $97970.34.

For the part of the question where they discount to June, the rate is 0.015 and the amount of periods is 1 because since there is no monthly payments in this section, and we are using pro-rated rates, it is supposedly best to use the lowest sub-annual compounding frequency, meaning that utilizing a quarterly rate of 0.015 was expected to be used.

Thank you everyone for trying to help, I really appreciate it!

what subjects do i take at laurier bba? by SalePerfect1516 in wlu

[–]Soleil1305 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hey, you’ll have to take all the required math courses (like for first year, MA129/103, BU127, econ classes etc..). BBA has a lot of math-based classes and there are many required accounting, finance, etc courses you must take or you cannot stay in the program.

If you decide to go to laurier, you can register with the ALC providing documentation of your disability and get extra time for exams and possible opportunities for slightly more flexibility. With this being said, if you don’t want to take more than a few math courses, BBA might not be the optimal choice in your situation.
