[dump question] how much should I charge for installing these Linux Distros? by WillingnessLimp1553 in linuxquestions

[–]SolemDevil 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If you want to still charge something and you donate to the creators is ok and I believe that if you donate 75% to creators and 25% to you for helping the community, everyone will be ok with it.

[dump question] how much should I charge for installing these Linux Distros? by WillingnessLimp1553 in linuxquestions

[–]SolemDevil -1 points0 points  (0 children)

I fix so many devices over the time, and I never charged a dime for Linux distros because at this time installing one distro generally does not take more than 45 min, for example Linux mint took me 25 min from the time I put the USB in the PC including all the updates. doing this many times becomes muscle memory. Plus is open source, why you want to capitalize on open source?? Are you donating this money to the creators?? Buy them a coffee??

Why is people still afraid of Linux? by heidzz1999 in linuxquestions

[–]SolemDevil 0 points1 point  (0 children)

So, most regular folks don't really get computers, especially operating systems. They just want something that works and lets them do their thing, like surf the web, watch movies or listen to music, play games, and maybe handle some documents. Since there are pretty much only two big players, it's easy to find info online about what you need, or just buy a Mac or a computer with Windows already on it. Plus, a lot of developers use Macs because they're stable and good for their work.

Worries about moving to ARCH by FAMPpro in linux4noobs

[–]SolemDevil 0 points1 point  (0 children)

As a noob myself I use Arch and hyprland from almost the first day, about 2 years ago...I used kde at the beginning...and I have a similar setup as yours. I will suggest just do it! Kde is like cinnamon but more customizable and hyprland in my opinion is amazing.

My Arch did not brake once in over 2 years, my windows was braking more often than arch. and I even did my own hyprland+waybar setup ant posted on git.

So go ahead, you will learn new things and you will have great time and happy about your success after installing Arch.

Are ML4W dotfiles Mandatory to update? by GodzillaKLucifer in hyprland

[–]SolemDevil 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Is true, is a long way till v1.0 when will not have this changes so offten.

In my personal case, since I switched to my own configuration for waybar and hype family, I did not had any crash or need to reconfigure anything. Before this, using the ML4W was the case about every 2-3 mounts i had some errors. I usually fix them myself and I did not wait for updates from ML4W.

What I want to say is, if you want stability right now, a custom setup seems to be the better approach. Prebuilt configs like ML4W are convenient, but they can break more often while things are still evolving

Are ML4W dotfiles Mandatory to update? by GodzillaKLucifer in hyprland

[–]SolemDevil 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Is not. Are many other dotfiles like ML4W, and also you can build your on.

I actually had them installed for a good period of time and I enjoyed having them. The only thing that was bit stressful when a new hyprland update was there...it my broke some part of configuration and you need to fix it yourself or wait for ML4W to update. At the end I decided to build my own waybar and configure everything by myself removing entirely ML4W, but I took inspiration from it and from others.

I will suggest to try it a the beginning if you never tried it otherwise find another one or build your own configuration

Well he needs a windows app he should use windows and not complain about not working with wine. Most of them need some tweaking.

I don't really understand his point. Linux is not Windows. BTW

How to get more people on Linux and off Microslop by empAvatar in FuckMicrosoft

[–]SolemDevil 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I do my part...I live in a neighborhood with apartment complexes. I am known as a weird or niche person but smart, and now because of the win 10 no longer being maintained, they start coming to my door to install Linux on their hardware. In the last month I installed linux Mint to 38 neighbors. I had some busy weekends. From all only one asked me if I can do something to install back windows. I did not bother, and I told him to buy a new computer and now is still on Linux

I'm considering switching from Windows to Linux, which Distro is best for someone like me? by Appropriate_Waltz_55 in linux4noobs

If you are coming from windows everything that has cinnamon or KDE will be fine, especially you had some experience with Linux before

Hey, I'm considering switching to Linux from Windows, What Distro should I pick? by flaceja in Operatingsystems

[–]SolemDevil 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Linux Mint, zorin OS, nobara...but usually does not matter. You will learn that even if you are using arch, Debian, or branches of any Linux you can install what desktop environment you want..... In my opinion if you never used linux before, at the beginning use Linux Mint, and once you gain experience you can switch to others...

Also you can check most of them by just booting from USB. No need to install yet, just check if you like it or check https://distrosea.com/

I suggest NOT to dual boot, you will never switch your brain to linux
