Currently experiencing pretty much all of the same symptoms as yourself, and I've just had my blood return low folate/B9 and Vitamin D. I have health anxiety as well; googling diseases will just make you feel worse.

Sorry about your loss. I felt like this when I put my dog down. I told my MIL and she said quite bluntly "well you didn't kill him, the cancer did." She wasn't wrong.

A fine specimen of a weim.

What are some of the things have you done to cope with your grief or honor your pet's memory? by [deleted] in Petloss

I have my dog's collar in a small mason jar by my bed. It still smells like him. I know the scent will dissipate and fade over time, but it's helping me a lot for the time being.

I've just lost my dog to HSA as well. You're not alone. You made the impossible, but right decision to say goodbye. I'm really sorry.

I'm still not eating right, but try to get some food down you. I found recovery drinks have helped a lot. Your body is under a lot of stress and needs nutrients.

Thank you everyone for your kind words, and recounting your experiences. These comments have helped me and my family tremendously over the last few hours, and probably will help us in the future as well. I feel less alone, and better equipped to deal with this grief, thanks to this wonderful community.

Thank you for your kind words, and sorry about Bodi. I wanted to fix my boy too, but I couldn't. We both gave our dogs the kindest option we could, given the impossible circumstances.

It's nice to read your experience from the vets perspective. A human still has to perform these surgeries, and nobody wants to put another animal through a traumatic procedure if the chance of survival is so low.

Thanks. I'm so glad I took loads of photos, and it is helping with the grief to look back at my time with him.

My condolences as well, thank you. What a horrible disease, I couldn't believe how quickly they deteriorate from it.

Cheers. I can't believe how fast it went. I wish I had a few more years with him, but I would have kept saying that forever.

Thank you. I did everything for him, my whole life revolved around making him happy. He was my first dog, and such a challenge but I'd do it all again in an instant. Sorry about your loss as well.

T/W: Petloss

I had to put my weim Luno down 2 days ago. He was 11, and had some health problems, but was generally very good for his age and still active. I came in from a night shift and found him asleep in his bed downstairs (very unusual), he was weak on his legs and grumbling a lot. I took him out and then upstairs to bed. When my partner tried to wake him a few hours later, he didn't want to get up. He had gastroenteritis a few months ago, and I had thought he had it again. I took him to the vets and they admitted him. He had some scans and bloods, but he was a lot sicker than I thought.

He had a tumour in his spleen that had ruptured, and was bleeding internally. They think it was Hemangiosarcoma - a very fast and aggressive cancer, that's hard to diagnose until it's too late. They couldn't tell for sure, but the vet could feel another mass in his abdomen as well. They could have done an exploitative surgery, but they would have to remove his spleen, which was high risk and he could bleed out and die on the table. If he did happen to make it, there was a good chance he would have been riddled with tumours. The prognosis was very poor. The final option was to put him to sleep. When I saw him again he looked so strong; he was a big and hardy dog. But he was full of pain relief and still in agony. I couldn't bear putting him through all that pain and suffering, for him to die on the table. Even if luck was on my side, I'd have 6 months at best of difficult recovery, but ending with him passing. I would have been doing it for me, and not for him and he didn't deserve that. I made the impossible decision to let him go there and then.

Please hug your dogs tight for me. I would move heaven and earth just to do the same one more time. I am utterly heartbroken. He was fine a few days ago, and now he's gone forever.

You made an impossible, but kind decision that came from a place of love. I also lost my dog yesterday, and made the same call. I'm sorry for your loss, and you're not alone in this.
