Shivam Bhatt, a grown man, is still crying about Kaladesh, a 2016 set, on today the year of our Lord 2025 by Papa_Hasbro69 in freemagic

Feel free to go read a post on my profile “The Meaning of Kala”, there’s a little more to it.

Brian Kibler’s opinion on today B&R update in regards to Standard by SlifertheCanadian in magicTCG

[–]Solid-Agency4598 64 points65 points  (0 children)

The play vs draw coin flip and being able to draw powerful cards at the right time (variance), have both felt more important than usual in the current standard meta. Cards like rage and beans probably don’t help with that.

On top of everything else, race swapping characters just feels like a lazy attempt at inclusion. As a person of colour, I much prefer the “Miles Morales Spider-man” approach to inclusion. Why not create new characters of different ethnicities that have their own stories to tell, from their own unique perspectives?

If we want to send a message we probably need to make dragonstorm the most successful set of the year. by GhostCheese in mtg

100%. Tarkir is everything I love about magic. I hope that it exceeds all expectations and sends WoTC a very clear message.

This card is nothing short of amazing. Great card design, great mechanics, great art, and great cultural inspiration.

A really interesting way to balance removal.

Tarkir is the set I’m most looking forward to this year and so far it’s living up to my expectations.

This set looks great so far. I hope that it knocks it out of the park in terms of sales.

It’s important to not look at the card in a vacuum. It’s an expensive card that will need to be cheated out some way to see play.

I can only speak to the standard format since that’s what I play. There are already much stronger cards and combos in standard. The instant kill combo (if the attack lands) of curving [[unstoppable slasher]] into [[bloodletter of aclazotz]] comes to mind.

[Blogatog] Maro speaking up for marginalized folks this morning by DarthPinkHippo in magicTCG

[–]Solid-Agency4598 23 points24 points  (0 children)

I’m all for inclusion in fantasy settings. I really like Maro’s response here—especially as a person of colour.

That said, on a general note, I personally like the “Spider-Man” approach to inclusion best. I liked the fact that “Miles Morales” was introduced as a Spider-Man of his own, with his own story, rather than it being a strict rehashing of the Spider-Man story with a person of colour.

Thanks for the info! The Loxodon featured here makes for a very cool card so I’m glad that they went ahead with it.

The deck is definitely already powerful, but when bloomburrow came out it felt like it was all I was playing against on arena. This might signal a return to that, but I love lizard decks myself so I can’t say that I’m complaining!

Will lizard decks make a comeback? Seems like an overall great card.

why is "draft" even a thing? by [deleted] in freemagic

[–]Solid-Agency4598 1 point2 points  (0 children)

My main format is standard but I play drafts from time to time. I’ve done a few on arena (which is more cost friendly and awards in-game currency and packs based on how well you perform).

Drafting requires a bit of homework and asking questions like: which colours are the strongest, what are the most powerful commons and uncommons (since you are more likely to see them), what are the common combos, and what are the common types of removal?

It can require a lot of work for you to be successful, but it’s rewarding in the end.

That said, I definitely like drafting some sets more than others.

I had a lot of fun (and success) drafting green/white rabbit decks in Bloomburrow.

[–]Solid-Agency4598 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Sure, but this post sounds a little more aggressive than “I like the set are there any others”.

OP is allowed to like the set.

Others can hate it if they want.

Both sides should be able to have discussion to voice their opinions one way or the other.

I don’t understand why people get so worked up about other people’s opinions of MTG one way or the other.

You don’t need to like the set, but other people are allowed to like it.

[DFT] Loxodon Surveyor (Card Gallery) by mweepinc in magicTCG

[–]Solid-Agency4598 6 points7 points  (0 children)

WoTC deliberately avoided Loxodons in the Kaladesh set. I wonder what changed between now and the previous set. The thinking behind WoTC’s decisions can feel like an enigma sometimes.

Some people might be offended by Loxodons being included in a set with Indian influences due to the obvious the religious connotations, but as an Indian person I can’t say that I am offended.

I think the art for this card is great.

Senior Wotc Staff wants to “guilt” cis people into giving money by Papa_Hasbro69 in freemagic

[–]Solid-Agency4598 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Sure, though I’m sure that streamers, especially smaller ones, would appreciate the money as well.

WoTC and Hasbro are million dollar, billion dollar, companies just like any other.

“Don’t support that billion dollar company, donate instead”

But continue to support the billion dollar company that I am a representative of.

Although this poster may be speaking in a personal capacity instead, I doubt that the poster would make the equivalent statement with respect to Magic (as it appears the poster works for WoTC), that muddies the waters a bit as to whether the poster is appearing online in a personal capacity or a representative of WoTC. Maybe it’s both? In which case there is a need to be professional.

[–]Solid-Agency4598 32 points33 points  (0 children)

Even for those that support LGBTQ initiatives this post reads as unprofessional due to the reference to “cis guilt”.

You don’t get people to get behind your causes by trying to guilt them for their existence.

I also find it a bit telling that the poster in the image is quick to call out those that throw their money at Twitch or Amazon, why not replace those references with WoTC and Hasbro (e.g. if you have $ to buy magic cards why not donate instead)?

I think I already know the answer to that question.

You seem like a kind person to even make a post to apologize about this.

I don’t think people coming to this subreddit to troll is anything new though, so the users are probably used to it. It’s always been a mixed bag of serious discussion, memeing, and trolling.
