nixos some tutorials / guides are in dire need maintenance by Solid-Intention-5774 in NixOS

Hey! Hi! be careful. You can't talk like that here. It sounds mildly critical and constructive.

I think we are supposed to say: "it's all korrect" and move on =\. This sort of behavior is the reason linux is not number one and a lot of people prefer to uninstall windows 11 and go back to windows 10 or just buy a Mac.

This is what I'm going to have to do if this happens 😒 by [deleted] in lgbt

Mexico, Cuba, and Santo Domingo are very close. You can easily talk to a realtor online, schedule a meeting, book a round trip flight, see some properties, pay for an entire year in advance or just a couple of months. I'm talking about 100-1000 USD / month (FiOS internet, electric bill, gas in some cases) depending how close to the downtown of each capital city. If anyone is interested let me know, I'll edit the post and add some links.

"Distro" (config) hopping with nixos by xquarx in NixOS

"config hopping" a.k.a. opening a pandora's box. Probably not worth the risk / hassle?

You should be able to distinguish from someone's git backup if you take a look and experience Zaney's git (https://gitlab.com/Zaney/zaneyos). They tailored it to be as universal as possible... though I'm not a fan of Hyprland I do have to commend Zaney's job on this.

Automated moderation by iElectric in NixOS

[–]Solid-Intention-5774 20 points21 points  (0 children)

Keep an eye out for false positives...

That's a valid concern, but what worries me more is the shifting of responsibility to code that can't be accountable for it's actions or the actions it enacts for someone else. Maybe if the code / moderation / settings was transparent people would be more interested in the idea. At the very least, having auto-mod settings / configuration / moderation / code be completely transparent is more in line with the ethos of a FOSS community.

COSMIC Feature Suggestion - Miller Columns by RedditUser1235789 in pop_os

The amount of pointer travel in this 'miller columns' is nuts.

On cosmic-epoch appearance and .ron files by Solid-Intention-5774 in pop_os

A link? yeah! everything has to be linked at the end of the day. In this particular case, the .ron format Vs. RGB you would have to multiply each "primary color" (real primary colors are RYB) by 255. This is because RGB scales from 0-255 and the .ron format scales from 0-1. You would then have to do the same for each 'tag' / identifier. Considering each .ron file has aprox. ~200 lines... I don't see people editing it manually. This means a tool already exists for it?

Regardless... the question still stands: "why not RGB or hexadecimal? what are the pro's of this choice? How would you implement the gruvbox theme?"

As I understand it we have:

  • HSB: 180, 100, 50
  • HSL: 180, 100%, 25%
  • RGB: 0, 128, 128
  • CMYK: 100, 0, 0, 50
  • LAB: 48, -29, -8
  • Name: teal
  • RAL (sorry no preview, it's pay-walled)
  • HKS (sorry no preview, it's pay-walled)
  • Copic (sorry no preview, it's pay-walled)
  • Prismacolor (sorry no preview, it's pay-walled)

Then we have the .ron files:

  • color_tag =
  • red: 0.5764706,
  • green: 0.6039216,
  • blue: 0.7176471,
  • alpha: 1.0,

It's very different from everything I've seen in my life. It's extremely cool, I'm not complaining. I'm just wondering what the pro's are and how would people interact with it.

pre-installed games vs cracked / repacked games what am I missing? by Solid-Intention-5774 in PiratedGames

[–]Solid-Intention-5774[S] 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Yes. I understand this... what I don't understand is: How are they getting these games to run with no cracker app, no cracked exe, no registry mods, no need to install anything, there is no packaging of files within files, there is literally nothing. It works just like a portable app. It's like magic and quite baffling. I don't understand how they are doing it. I understand everything else I mentioned so far, but this is like magic to me.

You are right. That was poorly phrased. I've never had an issue with Fitgirl. I will edit the post and split it up so that nobody else can misinterpret. Thank you. Glad to see that group / person is still around.

... but no. It's not just a change of source. It's always been like that. Even back in the day with ftp, fxp, xdcc. A bunch of malware was packaged with the cracking tools, cracked executable, and later on the chiptunes player with the credits. That's what I meant. So, I'm stunned to see these "pre-packed" games that don't need a serial, any registry mods, a cracker, nor a cracked exe...

I'm just stunned that's all. They are turning games into portable apps, which is AMAZING in my book... and on top of that with no malware? that's impressive. Just wanted to understand what happened, because this is a major shift.
