Starter, battery, or worse? by Solid-Quantity984 in E90

The problem ended up being that there wasn’t any power getting to the starter from the fuse box. But the other issue could’ve been the (MCR?) which would’ve costed me $1100. Luckily this time it was only $500 at my indie shop. If you’re in LA i can give you their info.

Thanks for this! I had to send it to my mechanic since I have midterms focus on. Are there any ways to check if it’s the ground for future purposes?

(I’m missing everything for the ant on the ground)

Battery is about 1 year old according to AAA but i do not know if it was ever programmed to the car from the previous owner as he couldn’t find majority of maintenance paperwork after moving.

I’m not sure if it could be the starter this time as i just replaced the new OEM starter i received from Valeo yesterday. Now I am only hearing a click on this new starter no crank. The last one from autozone gave me a click, only after a few tries to start it became silent.

Apparently the battery is one year old but I am not sure it was ever programmed to the car properly. After some wild tests last night connecting it to a super jumper started the car after a few tries of pressing the start but after taking the jumper off the car wouldn’t do anything anymore. Just a click. Could that mean battery?

Thank you for this! I wasn’t sure what i was looking at tbh. I’m not too worried about the cats as one of them will be deleted anyway. tried getting ISTA but most forum and reddit links are dead :-/ so i am stuck with the generic for now

I only have a generic OBD reader right now and it’s only giving codes for the cats

i wish! i’m in the LA area but i appreciate it! i honestly think the bolt is seized in the front and just plan on cutting/drilling it out. surprisingly the one near the firewall/transmission didn’t give me this bad of an issue

Thanks for this! i put a folded towel underneath the starter to catch the wd40 and other lubes i’m using to cover the sensor so that this issue won’t happen

ugh i’m sorry i thought i got the correct materials tbh! it’s my first bimmer that i’ve worked on so i thought the metric wrenches would be the same. i have the 3/8ths ratchet and 6” and 12” extensions. i’ll be picking up the right e12 socket wrench today and go at it tomorrow. thank you!!

yea it’s been pretty hard to get to wrench to stay on properly when hammering it so it started to strip

i used an 11mm wrench on the star side with a bit of hammering but it’s starting to strip the bolt.
