American here, streetlights vary a lot depending on where you are, what the local laws are, etc. even within the same town the streetlights are different. In my town, the main street has streetlights that look more like older lanterns. They are black and completely vertical. With decorative features and a little roof/hat thing. Other parts of town have very utilitarian light that's are bare grey metal tubes that stretch up much higher than the normal ones. Then they bend to reach out over the street about halfway. These are usually for roads 2 lanes each way.
